Get taller cadets?
Twice a year I beg the ACF company and 4 Yorks to see if I can pinch extra space.
We are currently housed in a dead squadronâs home. My early ambition was to strengthen the unit and then, looking at where everyone comes from, hopefully split it in two and move my unit back to its original home while bringing 872 (Hull West) Sqn back to life.
Last I spoke about it that sqn was never going to come back and we were never going to be in with a chance of moving back because we do have a home, and other units need replacement buildings.
We had an open evening last night; by about 0830 this morning, there were 12 emails with completed forms!
18 lined up for the next recruit dayâŚand more still wanting to join the waiting list.
Those 2 things sound contradictory, given that essentially 872 now exist as 1324. Have you been given any excuses?
Brough not returning could be somewhat understandable, but if youâre getting plenty of recruits from around the old airfield then the bigwigs would be daft not to consider it.
I think the answer given back then was that 872 had been properly deleted, rather than simply closed. I stopped pushing for clarity though.
But I agree. I also failed to get us on the bottom of the list for new accn. So even though it was right we were a low priority, we essentially donât get considered while our old Brough ACF colleagues are looking for a permanent home.
That means theyâre currently looking for a building to house just one unit, if my understanding is current.
We have excellent facilities and Iâd be sorry to lose them, but our traditional recruits have a long old drive and weâre heavily dependent on lift sharing.
Having a goal to resurrect an entire sqn and its heritage would be a nice possibility to have on the cards, as we have essentially replaced another unit in all but name (and over 25 cadets still come from the nearest secondary to Brough).
With staff from a split of locations, we could quite legitimately bring both back if we sustained this. Iâd be really sad about it, but I think itâs the best outcome for the future of the organisation if we can acquire a new building in Brough.
The biggest issue continues to be getting Civ Com members!
A tale as old as time. Itâs been discussed to death, but I do think we do this a bit of a silly way presently.
Not every unit is a charity in its own right, therefore not every unit needs trustees. Yes, there has to be oversight of finances, but that can be done less formally than currently.
Dinner in Spoons with my (adult) children. Mains deserts and 2 rounds of drinks and change from ÂŁ50
Youll be opening a couple of DFs on the isle again soon.
Daughterâs wedding on Fri (it was a marvellous event) so havenât really been involved - looks like about 20 or so for our new intake. Priority given to those who donât have a alternative sqn within about the same travelling distance, so some 5-6 applications having to look elsewhere.
There seems to be a âmissing episodeâ of The Graham Norton ShowââŚ
Over the weekend Mum2James and I have both had reels appear in our feeds alleging an occasion when Graham Norton âchuckedâ Meghan Markle off the show, after she became annoyed at Graham calling her out for not being a ârealâ DuchessâŚ
If youâre being sincere, youâve been duped.
Aww - really
There seemed to be SO many posts etc about it - all seeming to go back to about 9 months ago.
The shred of realism was the idea that it was the combination of Graham Norton & Helen Mirren - addressing the idea that âyouâre not a real royal though anymore; are youâŚ?â
When I looked it up to check my suspicion, at least two of the results were channels that have a disclaimer along the lines of âstories are fictitious for entertainment purposes blah blahâ.
2 of the videos were an identical script. Lots of AI / text to speech.
Thereâs so much nonsense on YouTube.
