Especially considering the accuracy with which they would set and walk to anyway…
I’d argue it comes in handy to confirm a left or right turn. Whether they remember to use it…
It’s not a part of NNAS at that level or of LLA
Getting an email with the BRO relating to this year’s ACLC selection. It then explicitly states that it will be advertised on RAFAC Facebook channels in the next few days.
So we’re getting the info first and a warning that it will be on social media so we are prepared for cadets asking questions. Clearly someone listening at HQ to recent CFAV feedback from all quarters. The chap sending the message out is one of the good ones but hopefully this is a sign of wider change at HQ.
No email here. So funnily enough I’m finding out about it first via ACC
It was the CCF BRO. Hopefully ATC will follow soon.
You should try doing DofE expeditions via canoe, compass superfluous at all levels!
I would’ve absolutely loved doing a canoe DofE but only ever got to do walking ones.
Imagine you’d see so much nice scenery and cover a good distance.
Same here, wanted to do it my whole time as a cadet but just never got the opportunity to do it. Did bronze to gold with walking expeditions
You should try doing it in proper open water. Compass is definitely not superfluous!!!
I did two days walking, a days canoe and then two days walking in northern Finland. Back when the Star and Garter Home did an annual cadet challenge which doubled as a Gold expedition.
That sounds awesome
It was great. We hiked up to the Russian border and camped next to it (of course the chaps had to take a wee over the border). Then canoed back. It’s such a beautiful country and they really take care of their wilderness
I love finland…such an underated place. Everyones super nice also
Just a shame the beer prices make London look cheap
It’s most Nordic countries to be fair with beer prices…
My in-laws got smashed at the wedding as they were losing their heads over the fact that beer was “only” £5.50/£6 a pint in the hotel…
Just need to find a local source grog/moonshine…
ACC holiday? That sounds awesome! What an opportunity, I wish I could have done that as a cadet😱
Long drink is the way forward
Hmm - ACC meetup appeals - the Winchester perhaps?
