You know what really makes me happy?

MMH: The letter from the (albeit outgoing) VCDS.

Nice to have a bit of recognition from “on high”, and goes a very small way towards feeling valued.

Understatement.

Words are easy, actions are not.

It’s more than our own so called chain of command has done for us.

Agreed. But the action of VCDS sending a thank you note to CFAV is appreciated.

The 2 things are not mutually exclusive…

It can be both welcomed and also small.

MMH - winning a Kahoot quiz at work and getting £50 in vouchers.

MML - telling the kids none of it is getting spent on them as they were laughing at me for taking part in a kahoot quiz at work

MMH - actually being able to offer arms drill to the cadets :slightly_smiling_face: Thinking back it was a massive no when i was a cadet!

Think the massive no was because it strictly speaking wasn’t legal as cadets could only use section 5 for target shooting. Think a minister gave authorisation but I think it’s still a bit iffy/grey area.

This, frankly gmg.

We had a set of beautiful drill rifles on sqn. Looked fantastic paraded with banners.

For some reason scrapped at some point. Last seen in the mid 2000’s.

Why? What utter nonsense policy meant they couldn’t be used? What muppet signed off on it?

Utter rubbish like this is what irritates me about this organisation. Someone deciding a harmless drill rifle needs to be scrapped, as it doesn’t fit their agenda.

And we all have to be grateful when a concession is made.

AFAIK some high ranking officer realised how easy it is to convert a DP/L103 (L116??) back to a fully working rifle and panicked realising how they were being stored compared to normal L85s. Thus all L103s were reclassified as section 5 and had to be appropriately stored.

Yeah this^^

Right, so what about solid wood drill rifles, splinter hazard I suppose?

Any in particular… or just a SMS event?

You not used SMS recently for event planning?

Every event this here mans org is a total -foot- ball sack of a task.

Naa just first event ive actually organised with weapons in the mix

Oh yeah.
That’s never easy.
Certainly not as easy as it should be.

All the powers that be like to stick their end in and add this and that to the requirements.

I did rifle drill with No4s. Far funkier than what you can do these days.

We did continuity rifle drill, armed guard for banners and sleeping sentry which taught all the things held dear. and made you feel special when involved as you had to be really smart. Most sqns did this and we were part of a 24 strong continuity squad from 3 sqns and did displays at local fetes and shows. All stopped because some weak kneed individuals got all PC about young people carrying arms in public and DP weapons removed from sqns.
When arms drill was reintroduced a few years ago in keeping with all things in the modern era too many people involved who over thought it and made it too difficult.
We were on camp and on a cultural visit they were doing some WW2 re-enactment and had some N°4s, the urge to pick one up and relive my youth was too great, much to the delight of the cadets with me and bewilderment of the re-enactors. Fortunately before every phone had a camera and widescale SM.
