If someone is bumped down a rank, there is normally a term to describe it. Except apparently it can’t apply because the ranks aren’t real - so I was asking what the alternative term would be.
It’s not relevant how long they served or whether it’s a correct or fair action.
Those that got it time served under old system were allowed to keep it going forward
New system is based on appointment - no relevant appointment no rank - it is in the rules so no argument
Makes things easier for cdts - no confusion with a Fg Off boss and supernumary Flt Lt otherwise does their heads in
When Army veterans think that they have to right to be rude to air cadets for wearing a stable belt when they are perfectly entitled to.
So today I was at a wings appeal day helping out and one of the cadets I was with was wearing a stable belt. We were standing at the side doing no harm or being rude, smiling at everyone when this Army major decided to come up to this cadet wearing the belt and ask him in an unessasary mannor why he was wearing a stable belt. This cadet then freezes and lookes petrified so I try to explain to the man but he turns around and snaps “shut up I was talking to him” at this point I am fuming but I say nothing. This cadet then replied “I believe I am allowed to wear it sir” to which he replied " no you are not the stable belt is for the army, navey and RAF only not air cadets. So you ARE #INSERT SQD NO. HERE# I will be enquiring this with your sqd leader." then he walked away. Then after telling my OC about this he comicly replied “I shall look forward to this email”
Find out who his boss is, politely but pointedly write to his boss (a paper letter always has a certain je ne sais quoi about it that one simply doesn’t get via an email) and suggest that yelling at teenagers who are collecting for charity does not paint one’s regiment/corps in the best light and probably doesn’t really stand up to the Service Test.
In addition to what @MattB has very correctly written, I would sign off by suggesting that if said Major wishes to enforce RAF/RAFAC dress regulations, he should perhaps read them first - and I’d note the paragraphs that deal with Stable Belts and Cadets to assist said Major in his CPD.
I’d also ask his Lt. Col how he’d evaluate the reputational damage he thinks that this incident has inflicted on X County ACF…
I’d also be asking for a written apology to the cadet involved - from the Major. Ideally written on his own skin (though I might not put that last bit in the letter…).
You have been mightily unlucky. I’ve got to say I’ve never had anyone be other than “nice” to cadets when in uniform doing this sort of thing, as they look smart and are courteous. Even going back to my days as a cadet doing collecting. We’ve just done our usual 2 Saturdays in the two local shopping areas, as ever the local baker’s have provided all of them with sustenance. This will no doubt be repeated come Poppy Appeal. Staff don’t get look in.
If a cadet was unfortunate enough to come across someone like this, I’d be inclined to appraise them to wind their neck in.
I’ve experienced it a number of times, unfortunately. How smart and courteous the cadets are is irrelevant - in the instances I’ve witnessed, the problem has always been with the individual creating the ruckus.
David Cameron having the gall to criticise people in his book. Was it not he who went to Brussels failed to get what we wanted, decided to hold the referendum as had been promised in the election manifesto, which when the result didn’t go as expected ran away. Until the last point I thought he was doing OK as PM, given he said there would be a referendum and there was. Who’d have thought it a PM doing and being allowed to do what they said they would.
