You know what really grinds my gears? The Gears Strike Back

My old dog did that, he ended up with a constantly bent tail

Estate agent is being a bit of a W :anchor:. Monday is take over day… guys known that since we signed contracts in October.

He also knows that it will be arriving in country late and not settling into my hotel until probably 2300.

He also knows that hotel is a 5 hour drive from the house.

So he sets a meeting time of 1045. Because that’s when the bank transfers the money.

I say, ok, I’ll be there mayb about 1400 due to the drive and actually needing sleep.

ā€œNo, I’m not in the officeā€.

Mildly irritating.

We are 3 days away from the first seminar of my second module. The lecturer has only just released the multi-page reading list today and plans to have the pre-recorded lecture available at some point before the seminar.

I have a full day out on Monday from early doors until late, and I’m stuck in training all day Tuesday before the seminar at 1800. I was also hoping to get some decent hill running done tomorrow.

Apparently, this particular lecturer believes in my multitasking abilities more than reality.

BBC News - Reform pledges to open migrant detention centres in Green-voting areas

These are not serious politicians, but it’s less and less opaque how they want to enact Trumpian-style, authoritarian-lite, divisive, and illegal nonsense. It’s a pandering dog whistle that will unfortunately be incredibly effective on the fervently bigoted jowls of the right-leaning, the misled, and the frightened.

The expense of this alone would be disastrous for the budget, but I seriously hope they are hauled over the coals for this, because it’s completely and blatantly undemocratic, fear mongering blackmail, and an open threat to political opponents.

This is utterly insane.

Even Rupert Lowe has come out saying this is a bit mad :joy:

I’m also amazed this doesn’t go against some sort of electoral law?

The law of unknown consequences - how likely is that likely to fire up ā€œnot sureā€ voters to place an X In the box for Green, just to stick 2 fingers up at Reform?

Haven’t even looked at the geographical / political map to see how likely / unlikely this would be in the key areas where the location of a migrant centre might be feasible?

EDIT - 2024 map:

Got sign off from the female if they come into power were banging out the country.

Standard politics, they just don’t normally say it out loud. (No one’s ever said ā€œvote for us, we will be build a prison on your doorstepā€.)

Had some issues myself last night. At first assumed it was me but then everything worked fine.

By targeting centres in areas they don’t control – is that not the harder option?

Of course all this assumes that they get into power, so for this lets assume they do

The opposition party MP, be that Labour, Tory, Green, or whichever isn’t Reform, will stick their heels in and kick up as big a fuss they can. Likewise with the Council.
While I get the idea of ā€œscare tacticsā€ and is simply an attempt to get voters to vote a certain way - it is not as straightforward as they suggest – everyone knows you can get more done when everyone is on your side and in agreement. And thus the opposite must be true…

The reality of whether they would be successful in implementing this is moot, considering the intention is to coerce people into voting for them to get the power to try.

Yeh I don’t see a huge point in that. Just FOMO and something that people don’t really need
