You know what really grinds my gears? The Gears Strike Back

Reading on social media that there’s also currently disorder (allegedly involving machetes) in Southend too. Not clear whether it’s related or not.

I will say that there are EDL types livestreaming it on TikTok.

Just seen the Southend videos on twitter. Utterly frightening. Something has to be done. Kind of see why people are on the streets in Southport now!

What does Southend have to do with Southport? Could you elaborate?

Having seen the video, that looks gang related.

Luton Airport is an absolute dive isn’t it :joy:

Because it’s the thin blue line that stands between scum like this and innocent people. At which point “you’re protecting THEM therefore you are my enemy”.

On a more positive note x.com

Most of that is standard hot day youth running amock, steaming shops etc (hasn’t changed since it was MODS and Rickers), add in a little drug dealing related tension for the small group playing pirates of the Caribbean. Nothing political about that, although I’m sure the far right will try to make it so based on the race of the kids (as they have in Southport).

Enjoyed that. Little nugget of sunshine on horrible day.

I mean, there’s worse airports in the UK and they are continually building and adding more onto it?

Sorry it was too early and people were getting in my way and causing delays at security by not having their liquids out.

Im better now, ive had my coffee

I have to defend Lootin airport a little (apart from the car parking charges!).

Years & years ago, it was a hick country airport - Lorraine Chase with her Campari / Luton airport advert was a giggle - but has come on leaps & bounds. The airfield infrastructure has been expanded (e.g full length taxi-way at one end to save aircraft having to backtrack / waste runway time / restrict capacity). There were plans for another Terminal on the opposite side of the airfield, but don’t know the latest on those - delayed due Covid, & local Council concerns that expansion of LHR & LGW would partially negate expansion plans.

The Terminal is unrecognisable from previous years; all the functionality (check-in, security screening, shop facilities, etc) were insufficient & cuse all heaps of issues. Now, huge modernisation & improvement - still some choke points when it’s busy, but that’s the same at many airports.

What self-loading freight don’t get to see - Air Traffic was pretty efficient & flexible when traffic permitted.

O love the ATC here, Amanda on Approach is quality

I think the worst airport I’ve been to is probably Male (main airport for Maldives).
Best/Shiniest is Istanbul

I’m sure some of the winged master race have much better and worse but from the limited amount I’ve been to as a passenger this is my opinion!

Worst airport Manchester, best Dubai or Singapore.

Yet another one from the BBC on charges of sexual abuse, Huw Edward’s has coughed a guilty plea to downloading child pornography. He probably will not spend a day in jail for his offending.

Where to start…

I used to have to take airlines worldwide so my lits could be huge.

Big airports are often easy to fly into (AMS, IST, LHR, DXB, etc) but far too big for pax to get through & progress around the airport - MAD is massive, same for Singapore. Even some of the Moscow airports were pretty good for pax handling, such as DME. I’d rate DUB as one of the busiest airports to fly into in the UK / EU - & very fast on the radio too!

I used to like the “one horse town” airports in the middle of nowhere (Finland, France, USA, etc) where the Air Traffic guy was also the fire chief, baggage handler & general dogsbody Yep, we’ll change the runway so you can have a straight in approach, etc, etc.

Security used to be the pet hate (especially as we had to travel in uniform in case suitcase got lost / delayed); I concur with MAN - LCY wasn’t the best either, Islay were “different.” Think it was Minneapolis - form work duty, connecting to get international flight back home, so travelling in shorts / T shirt initially. Security arch alarmed - please get feet checked. Take off sandals (yep, really casual!), place feet on marks on the floor, scanned by TSA agent. Bleep, bleep! (No metal in my feet.)

Eh? Don’t worry says the agent, it’s the re-bar in the floor… Doh!! :man_facepalming:

I ask for security supervisor - are you being awkward with me sir?!? I show my crew ID, supervisor comes across, feet scan demo’d again - bleep, beep.

And?? No comprehension of the false alert & that every agent knows about it / ignores it.

Right then, get airport security director please - lucky I had loads of time. He arrived, demo’d again - oh :poop:

Big thanks for notifying him - security supervisor looking very sheepish. Subsequent feedback from director to me, at least 6 other screening aras with the same (known) problem!! :astonished:

I thought it was that he had been sent images, as opposed to actively seeking them out? Which is a big difference in terms of aggravating features.

Also, if we sent inside every person who committed that offence, the current capacity issues would be a footnote in the scale of the problem that such a change would cause.

The terminology is often confusing for technical reasons, but it’s the same charge for downloading the stuff from TOR, or if your 16 year old girlfriend sends you a topless picture of herself. (Not that I think the sender was the girl that the earlier allegations referred to.)

If he was sent them, why didn’t he go to the police with those images, they had to come to him.

I do hope the magistrates refer the case to the Crown Court for sentencing.
