You know what really grinds my gears? The Gears Strike Back

Even if you were open why would Wing need the Cadets names in advance?

This is how our Wing arranges it. We have to tell them names in advance. 6 weeks in advance, normally.

Wtaf.

I know I’m old but when I was a cadet, final parade on a Friday notice ‘flying tomorrow/Sunday, volunteers, bus leaves Lord Nelson Street 08:00, be there with 3822 and a packed lunch if you want to take one?’

Edited to add; at the time more than a few of the older cadets 15 to 18 had Saturday jobs in shops, so time off was at a premium.

that is ridiculous!

We really don’t help ourselves sometimes in this organisation

I barely work 6 weeks in advance except for the most major events and unlike most cadets I’m in control of my own calendar…

And I’m willing to bet this is the only allocation we get this year.

That needs a formal complaint up the chain as far as you need to take it. Your cadets have missed out because of:

  1. a mandated shut down
  2. pathetic and illogical local rules that increase the admin burden and have no actual need to exist other than increasing admin burden.

If I had any faith that any form of complaint - constructive or otherwise - would actually make a difference (or even just be heard), then I would.

However…

Then send a letter to parents explaining the situation and giving them Tony’s email address.

Give them the COS email address, I always find it more effective to aim for the deputy as they tend to be quite good at getting things done & resolving but you can always escalate to the top person if they don’t do anything (which allows the organisation to save face & blame the deputy).

If you always go to the top person then it will just get delegated & lost within the bureaucracy

To be fair the email would just get forwaded to COS anyways. CoS and 6FTS have a really good working relationship.

Slightly off-topic, who is current COS?

So, just to check with the hive mind, does anybody else have to submit the names of those attending AEF / VGS at any point before actually going?

We do, yes. Have been threatened to have places revoked because I hadn’t yet given names in the past. Albeit, we don’t need to give 6 weeks notice of names. Normally only a week or two. For Boscombe down things are slightly stricter too but maybe opsec (?) but yeah, all names required in advance!

Its only a fairly recent thing that…something super secret squirrel must be going on

We don’t, no.

That’s changed this year, just need staff names in advance for passes now as I recall, updated JIs are to be issued.

Sounds like a question you should raise under RC North’s challenge everything policy.
