You know what really grinds my gears? The Gears Strike Back

I’m on White Hall tomorrow and it’s been made very clear by the big boss that she can’t make us wear them. (It’s also been made very clear that if we don’t we will be swapped to an area of the event where we won’t be on the TV.)

I would prefer to wear a metal pin version, less danger of it getting caught and demolished.

I know I can (and do) in 2s, but it would be nice in 1s.

I have a lapel pin I wear with my suit (being on the local RBL committee, I have an almost endless supply of styles to choose from) and a paper one in uniform, but in casual dress (i.e. most of the time I’m not working) I don’t bother. The paper ones crumple too easily on a hoodie and if I put a lapel pin on there there’s a 99% chance I’d forget to take it off before putting it in the wash

I very much take the RBL view that no one should be forced to wear a poppy and no one should be attacked for not doing so. Otherwise, what does the poppy actually mean if you are forced to wear it?

I feel for you! I can feel my third wisdom tooth coming through. The last had to be taken out under sedation, so I’m not looking forward to the next one…

The complexities of mountain bike standards and trying to figure out what’s going to work on my full sus.

GMG…My local council.

My dads retired living off state pension and my mums disabled living on ESA & PIP benefits almost hand to mouth with very little emergency fund… My parents got moved into a bungalow due to the mobility issues by the local council however the bathroom wasn’t fit for purpose (Bath instead of shower which my mum struggles to get into) and it was discussed that it would be turned into a wet room. Contractors came out to quote etc. Today New Forest District Council rang my mum to tell her they would only do the conversion into a wet room if they contribute £3.5k. What a joke local authorities are!

Agreed.

Where the heck, does all the council tax go?!

Off on external 3rd party reforms and consultations… that’s where.

Different strokes. Mum and dad have lived in the same council house for over 40 years, had it redecorated every 5/6 years, new kitchen, central heating done and windows replaced twice, over the last 30 or so. Their bathroom was redone as I suppose a wet room after an adult care assessment and letter from the hospital saying like your mum the bath was awkward and it didn’t cost a penny.
So it might be worth to seeing if you can get an assessment done. If the move was due to mobility, it shouldn’t be too difficult.

Get in touch with the council and request an Occupational Therapist assessment for the house. They will recommend all that may need to be done and max amount is normally 30k and with saving the most they should be asked for is 20% contribution is they have a large amount of savings, over 16k I think. By those calculations the contractors quote for the bathroom is £17,500 :open_mouth:

They can’t be following the right funding process.

My step dad lost a leg a few years back and they had a whole house rewire, wheelchair lift, adapted kitchen, wetroom and central heating in a private home and I think it cost £150 because of the tiles my mum chose for the bathroom.

edited to add ownership of the home is irrelevant - can be privately owned, private landlord or council property, just a different pot of money with different rules. Maybe speak to local Citizens Advice but normally you can just call the council and request it. Mrs C did after her spinal op and we had haandles and rails and steps all done for free.

Crikey how much was the total bill?

I just had our en suite redone completely to a high standard for a touch over £5k and know had we worked to a tight budget could have saved £1k on lower quality products.
Given you’re after much the same (shower, toilet and basin with floors, walls and ceiling) I’m lost how your parents are being asked to pay the majority of that.

I agree it’s not right they’ve been asked when they’ve been approved for it but to then pay such a significant sum and portion of the total is a complete joke!

Are efforts like these published anywhere? I had no idea of this until I saw this post when scrolling. Also, I am curious as to who she is and why RAFAC.

Gmg it would be nice to know about what is going on like this.

Edit- the Just Giving page gives you some more information Crowdfunding to support the Air Cadets by rowing solo & unsupported across the Atlantic, inspiring young people through adventure and STEM. on JustGiving

I see RC L&SER posted about it on his RAFAC book of face page. Well shared it from North Region page

It just makes me wonder what other things are out there.

I don’t really use SM much so I wouldn’t have seen it.

I belive she is an ex cadet/CFAV

Only Wg Cdr.

Also interesting Chris Hoy not listed at all.

Why are we finding this out via FB…

:man_facepalming::man_facepalming:

I don’t mind finding stuff like this out via Facebook. It’s lovely news, and I’m sure she’s an inspiration and will give some interesting and motivational speeches…

But on my day to day squadron business it makes no difference.

Let’s focus on getting news of squadrons changing regions right first, then sweat stuff like this.
