You know what really grinds my gears? The Gears Strike Back

My subscription to ViewRanger has finally come to its end. Thanks but no thanks Outdoor Active.

Time to switch to OSMaps.

Interesting. I was looking at going the other way. The OSMaps app seems to always be buggy!

have you seen all the debates (so many debates) on the outdoor freelance instructor fb group?!

My comparison article might be useful if you’re considering any of the alternatives? That being said, OS Maps is a solid choice.

Yeap. So many!

I’ve spent years with ViewRanger. But they’ve forced the switch to Outdoor Active now - I cannot renew without switching - and having tried it, why would I swap to a lesser product??

Maybe next year it will improve.

Thanks @Jacques - I’d forgotten your awesome review!

For now though, OS maps will work just fine for me and my needs!

Using Android Auto on my phone as a Sat Nav and it continually crashing to a white screen (but thankfully still audio). Really helpful when I’m trying to get to a new work site…

This won’t help, but I’ve not had any issues with Android Auto lately. With an old phone it used to randomly stop the connection, but unplugging and replugging the cable fixed that, which I could do at a convenient moment.

Despite, or maybe because, I work in the vague tech sector, it gmg slightly that problems like this are difficult for the end-user - is it car hardware, is it phone hardware, or is it Android? Complaining to any of which will almost certainly bat you to one of the other 2 (and the latter 2 via your network if it’s on contract, who in my experience, just say they provide a phone with the software but don’t officially support the software :roll_eyes::roll_eyes:)

Oohh I’ll try that. Google maps works absolutely fine which is strange!

GMG - Seeing the Union Flag being used upside down far too often is the Olympics. Currently watching the closing ceremony and the little flags on sticks are upside down.

I know this GMG will split opinion but…

… those new paper straws from McDonalds really are poop.

I’d rather deal with microplastics in the ocean for the next 1000 years than not finish my medium sized coke because the straw got wet in the process of DOING ITS JOB.

One of the key guiding principles when designing straws has got to be ā€œit will be exposed to water on the inside and out; we should probably make it robust enough to deal with thatā€. NOT. ā€œDissolve on first contact with waterā€

That’s why we have a selection of metal or silicon ones at home and in the car, that we can pop in the dishwasher.

Every day of the week and twice on a Sunday.

Imagine how I feel… I have chocolate milkshakes from there

I just drink it out of the cup.

Paper straws in McDonald’s have been a thing for a while, at least in my area of the country. They are pretty poor at doing their job though, unless you down your drink.

Unless they’ve got new, even worse ones?

They’ve been here a while too. But today I tipped into blind rage due to the temptation of a caramel frappe. Normally I’d go Coffee (no straw) or Coke Zero (no ice) delid and just knock it back, but today i was hot, I was sad and the picture looked so tempting.

Within 5miles the straw had become a soggy mess incapable of drawing up any fluids.

And I got angry.

You can’t simply decouple the plastic dome of protection and swig a frappe - you end up with a sticky cream laden 'tache.

So it was left to melt until I got home and could access a far superior metal straw. And I drank it tepid rather than cold.

Ergh.

Bleugh coffee.

In all seriousness, that is very frustrating. I’ve got into the habit of lifting the straw out of the drink when I’m not using it to try and reduce the soggy straw. I had an milkshake from BK a couple of months ago and I couldn’t drink anything from their straw, I’m not sure if this was due to the thickness of the shake? Definite first world problems though!

Nah. It’s happening in Scotland too!

Ha.

GMG today - accidentally pressing the back arrow rather than forward when doing mandatory work training so having to listen to the same page again (you can’t skip ahead until they’ve read it all out).
