You know what really grinds my gears? The Gears Strike Back

Err, which one? The one in Horfield or the one in Clifton?

Neither have ATC units. I don’t know enough about the history to know if they ever did have one. However, I imagine that with two airports nearby, the Squadrons were better off there than with the Army. Meanwhile the TA centres at Keynsham and Speedwell both did have squadrons.

Come to think of it, that is a lot of TA units which are/were based in Bristol.

:tada:

The nearest unit would be Westbury-on-Trym, again a unit not known by a Bristol Compass designation.

It’s the inconsistency which winds me up most.

Ah yeh, I knew there was a sqn in Westbury

Sheffield squadrons have a similar inconsistency.

Eccy Road

WTF is up with South Sheffield? It’s almost as far north as North??

Guessing it was originally in the south of the city, needed new premises, only one available was in the north but the name didn’t change…?

Yes, I believe it was originally located at RAF Norton, before moving to Hillsborough, but the OC wanted to keep the old name.

That sort of idea only makes sense for a little while, after a certain period of time, when no one is left who remembers the old location, it just becomes a bit of a joke and a source of confusion.

Yeah, can’t they just go with numbers? Sheffield No1 Sqn, Sheffield No2 Sqn etc? That’s what they have in Brighton at least! 225 (Brighton No 1 Sqn) and 226 (Brighton No 2 Sqn). But then there is also Hove Sqn which is within throwing distance of the other 2!

GMG - car insurance, why is it so forking expensive

Coventry has it the same

8F City of Coventry Squadron is no where near the city - but way out on the outskirts

yet 2286 Arden Squadron is half the distance away from the city centre!

Either…

A. Grow older.
B. Get a less expensive car.
C. Stop having accidents.

Cheap as chips then!

D. Relocate to the middle of nowhere
E. Don’t have kids on the policy.

It’s an absolute minefield and really do believe they make it up as they go along.

I was a named driver after forcing Mrs crazy to take insurance in her own name as I had company car. Changed jobs, didn’t need car as it was WFH so left things as they were until we needed a second car for my coaching about 4 years later.

Thought I had lost all my no claims being over 2 years since insurance in my own name so that’s what I put in the comparison site. Cheapest was also my last insurer called up to be told you only start to lose years so I would still have 4 years (6 is their max recognised, another scam they pull but that’s for another day) anyway they redone it with my 4 years and it knocked £50 off :rage: l was always told 1 year alone was worth 30% and this was less than 10% for 4🤷

Because they can exploit (young) people

I refuse to believe a senile 80 year old in a Nissan Micra as old as me is a safer driver than I am

No, but they’re cheaper to insure because they’re senile so forget to put the claim in!

Edinburgh is numbered but I don’t remember off the top of my head whether a cohesive sequence still exists.

Glasgow wasn’t in sequence it was for a long long time:
32F (1st Glasgow)
62 (2nd Glasgow)
122 (5th Glasgow)
1089 (7th Glasgow)
2452 (shawlands Academy)

They never changed it after merging sqns back in the 50/60s. Shawlands hasn’t been a school sqn or linked to the school in over 40 years.

They were going to try and re name the north, west, east and south plus shawlands until they realised 62 and 122 are 10 minutes drive apart in the same area. So it was just left

The only one to change was 32F after a long fight got its original designation back and is 32F (1st Scottish)
