Wishing I was more practically skilled :joy:

Got some garden projects Iā€™m looking at for the summer but after some YouTube research Iā€™m swaying more towards paying someone to do it properlyā€¦

Anything in particular?
Love a bit of gardening / garden construction.

Just went up to check on it and it still up! Caulked and ready to be sanded/cleaned up tomorrow!

Coated it in PVA, before painting.

Was some advice I was given, as the poly will soak up the paint, and youā€™ll have to keep adding layers.

Watered down pva or just pva

A mix PVA with emulsion is generally ok if your not using a specific sealer. PVA on its own will form a layer on top, think how easy it was to peel off your fingers in primary school, about 10% PVA

This is interesting, Iā€™d just put a few layers of watered down paint on first to soak in. Not used the pva method! Sounds, erm, sticky! :joy:

A little PVA in paint and or water will form a seal that will keep the final paint colour on top. Without PVA or another sealer the plaster or polystyrene will allow the paint to soak in and can end up looking patchy. May not be as obvious when using white but have seen people put over 10 coats and not get a nice finish on newly plastered walls before.

Only PVA, if choosing to use it, the seal can be quite thick and peel hence the watering down with either water or emulsion

EDIT *** Paint is my personal preference based on advice from builder friend that taught me how to board and plaster when renovating the kitchen

The kids. Love them to bits but right now they are seriously GMG.

Nice weather and Mrs Crazy finding more DIY jobs stopping me playing with my toys

My wife has been helping with the home schooling as sheā€™s a primary teacher on maternity leave. I had a look at the geography today and the teacher has downloaded a PowerPoint from another site and given my daughter that with no commentary whatsoever. They are meant to be learning about the difference between town and countryside but all she has is a load of photos with no context. Apparently this is all the school have been doing since January. These teachers are doing no live lessons, no voice overs, no recording videos, no marking and no going in to cover the key worker children. It took me 5 minutes using my wifeā€™s login to Twinkle to go on, search for subjects and topics and find the PowerPoints for a whole day.

At the other end my sister in law is doing full on live online teaching for year 2, plus marking homework and classwork.

I would be going ape!

If they werenā€™t going back next week I would too. Luckily my wife has been doing more than I thought in terms of helping, and without sounding like one of those parents, my daughter is fairly advanced for her age and has been able to cope. But I have written to the Head expressing my concern about the impact on the kids from families with two working parents and/or who do not have English as a first language. Iā€™m not going to send it until tomorrow though to let things calm down and double check before pressing send. For instance Iā€™m not sure whether I should include the part about how the materials provided wouldnā€™t pass a presentation skills assessment, (TBH they make the materials on ultilearn look amazing)

Iā€™d be copying in the school governors too, thatā€™s a complete joke.
