Would have to be something very concrete which I doubt there is, everything I’ve read is that this is the US sulking that they missed it in the Caribbean.
Also considering their design how easy is a Tanker to sink?

Looking at the state of her, I’m amazed they had sufficient paint to paint anything, let alone the Russian flag!
We should never have been on the fence when it comes to enforcing sanctions against the shadow fleet.
The issue is that they’re only American sanctions, not internationally-agreed sanctions, to my understanding.
There would be nothing to stop China from seizing every American-flagged cargo vessel out there if this became the accepted modus operandi. The potential escalating retaliation is exactly why we have an international rules-based order.

There are UK and EU sanctions - as well as others - but they are specific to named individuals.
Just to add for balance the sanctions on the tanker were initiated by Biden as part of the Iranian connection.

The difference being that no one who matters would risk it with the USN.
Iran or North Korea might be dumb enough but China and Russia wouldn’t, unless they really fancied a war.
