White Rank tabs for pre-ATF SNCO CFAV

Certainly that’s what FS ATF said it would be back in March.

Current Announcement doing the rounds on SharePoint

The wording of para 10 is now:

“10. On appointment, SNCOs will be required to wear white tabs below their rank slides, to indicate they have yet to attend ATF and complete their mandatory training. Only on successful completion of the course may the white tabs be removed. This requirement does not affect the 12-month probationary period which remains.”

I am assuming that “below their rank slides” means lower down the epaulette and not inside the slide as an inner layer

Great, Cracking, Which one do they put the ATC badges in?

the actual rank slides of course! The white band just goes beneath them to signify they’ve yet to attend ATF!

Alright, alright. As if anything is ever THAT simple in this job.

You’d think that they’d be better above the rank slide… so that the rank slides are in their usual place.

Ohwell it directly affects me now, as of today I am a Sgt(ATC)!
it’s only taken them since March to process it
March? That’s not too bad.

Curious, how would it work if apprentice Sergeant owns No1s or 5s?

From what I remember being told recently by ATF any Sgt not to have attened the course is to waer the white tab beneath the sgt tapes, the ATC pin is to be worn at the edge of the White Tab.

As to No1s or No5 s the Pre ATF sgt is NOT to wear any thing other than No2 and Beret. Definately no SD hat

interesting question. I know of an officer cadet in my wing last year who borrowed my No5s with wing cos permission. (He obviously having no no.1s having not been to Cranwell) But i have no doubt that was wrong and shall soon be told so.

Certainly sounds that way. I’ve seen a bit of paperwork that says that they should wear the white tabs with ATC pins in place of sergeant stripes - other than that, it would seem that they follow the same sergeant’s dress regs as any other, as per AP1358C.

Sounds like rubbish to me. As there is no category in the AP relating specifically to pre-ATF Sgts, all the regs for SGTs ATC generally apply to them too.

I think it would have been usefull if there where better details and instructions on this change. Photos of said tabs being worn in different configurations.

Can’t believe it would be that difficult or time consuming to amend the AP properly when this new order was launched.

Thinking about it, would concise instructions help?

I am sometimes bewildered to see were ATC pins end up on No1 and No5 dress and there’s clear instructions for that.

throwing something new into the mix:

for those ex-regular SNCOs who come in to ATC service as FS (ATC) do they go to ATF??
and with that do they wear the white tabs as a FS? or woudl they wear white tabbed Sgt pre-ATF then promoted to FS upon thier return?

i know of a couple “straight to FS ex-regualrs” in the Wing but being on other Sqns arent sure what hoops they have to jump through…

Presuambly you’re an Officer Cadet as well then and hold no Qual’s that he hasn’t got (Wings, Nav Brevet etc)?

I was a Pilot Officer at the time, (as was he technically). And neither of us have any quals!
