What are you watching?

I loved the cave episode, was this seasons version of the movie episode and worked really well.

I loved it as a teenager. Tried a rewatch last year and many of the jokes haven’t aged well. And I say that as someone who really isn’t PC with my sense of humour.

(Plus mandatory comment about WOs having no friends)

Yeah I agree, even in its initial run everything after about Season 5 started to go off the boil.

There are still some great episodes and some really funny moments but the whole show hasn’t aged well. Some of the humour doesn’t suit modern society, I can see past that, the problem is that it isn’t actually funny as a grown up.

Always preferred ‘Coupling’ - would never be made today but at the time so many of the things in it rang a bell

Was the awkward timing of this coincidental?

I’ve heard the cushions rant was one take. If so, magnificent work.

The Giggle Loop…

It’s more of a stack.

Has the quiz night changed?

I’m sure Monday nights used to be for Only Connect and University Challenge.

Oh nevermind, I was just early! Now watching Mastermind.

Safe to say I’ll not choose TV Scheduling as my specialist subject if I ever apply.

Salem witch trials …who knows that much?!

Someone doing a PhD in something related!

I’ve got a few other things to finish, but it’s time to top up my watch list. I’ve decided it’s time to put aside my Star Trek prejudices (I only knew very very weird families who watched it growing up - 3/4 of them had Dad go to prison for child abuse).
What’s the best place to start watching? I’ve got no issue with dodgy 70s sets and “special” effects.

As with anything, the best viewing order is the order they were made rather than any canonical chronology. This is because everything is produced in the context of what has gone before, even if it’s meant to be a prequel.

Release order is probably best, but you can skip TOS tbh

Sorry - accept some dodgy 60s input (space hippies, miniskirt and boot uniforms, Vietnam or race allegories) and TOS is good stuff although like all American TV series with 20 plus episodes per season you tend to get a third good, a third meh and a third rubbish.

With most ST follow ups you can miss a lot to get to the good stuff - TNG most of S1 and 2 in the silly one piece jump suits, DS9 hots up once the Dominion becomes the big bad, Voyager S4 once Eleven of Ten (sorry Seven of Nine) arrives and Enterprise skip the song at the beginning every time!

The only real dud is Discovery which had a good S1 but went into freefall after that - I banged out because it got so preachy
