I couldn’t find one (or for RAuxAF). Where a separate design exists (ties, blazer buttons, etc.) then I’ll wear it: otherwise I follow the precedent set by stable belts, cap badges, TRFs, etc, and just wear the RAF one.
You could butcher an RAFVR tie? More work though.
Makes me wonder how 2 (Gibraltar) Sqn gets by with the weather they have down there!
Personally I think we should adopt the RAF 100 Tartan tie the whole purpose is "The ‘RAF 100 Tartan’ is the only officially registered tartan in the world, to celebrate the last 100 years and the next 100 years of our amazing Royal Air Force " It pretty much sums up alot of what RAFAC is about https://theministryoftartan.co.uk/product/raf-100-tartan-tie-2/
Crikey. Somebody woke up on the optimistic side of their bed the day they wrote that!!!
Only 95 more to go!
Acclimatisation makes all the difference.
Also, this needs to be stressed for people like Aussies. The longest day in Australia is 14 hours. Ours is closer to 17.
This means that we get less cooldown time between days when the heat really piles it on, and less sleep.
Looks quite nice, though I’d be interested to understand more on the credibility of the registration. Not convinced I like the idea of some rando company creating “official” tartan without the direction of the respective service (similar how Award medals et al pull new medals out their arses and decide we’ve earned the right to buy them).
I know what you mean, I don’t think it is registered in the sense of the tartan register for clans and names etc however their website suggests and other websites such as RLC show they are an official MOD licensee to produce products on behalf of the Squadron/Regiment and they donate a % of proceeds to the charity for that particular tartan in the RAF case the RAF Benevolent Fund RLC
Getting this thread back on topic, I’m curious as to whether activities were cancelled this weekend? Especially given the latest IBN.
We carried on.
Dynamic risk assessments on how hot it was, decided that the activity wasn’t EAL. Enforced hydration breaks.
Our wing carried on with their athletics event despite the 30+C degree temps.
I saw comments saying it was fine because cadets were only competing for a short ish period of time, then could rest in the shade. Which is fine for them, but there were staff members out running each event in the sun all day. Not ideal.
I was one in the sun all day at an event very similar. Whilst there was shade and I made use of it when could, there wasn’t shade everywhere and couldn’t stay under it the whole while and I got burnt, even with multiple applications of suncream.
‘Enjoying’ the HEAT training on BADER as I write. (The programmers were clever enough to make sure the training has to be in the top window on the desktop, but they didn’t count on multiple monitors )
TBF more likely to get RSI from clicking through the PowerPoints than a heat injury
As per dress regs you can have a solid black plain handled umbrella when not on parade. It doesnt actually say that it has to be used in wet weather conditions. Perfect for finding the shade!
Now you’re thinking like an officer.
Taskmaster: The RAFAC Version
You have to trigger as many Warrant Officers as possible without technically breaking any rules. You have one week. Your time starts now.
A solid start is umbrella while taking drill wearing a side cap tilted over as far as possible.
Alternatively, wait for a windy day, carry your brolly, executing perfect stick drill, as you cannot put it up, and wear your SD cap, using the chin strap.
