Trump's Second Term Chat

I don’t think Mr Higgins will be too pleased about that :joy:

Extra points if you can spot both mistakes.

Are you referring to the erroneous use of Prime Minister as an honorific, when it should be ‘the Rt Hon. Keir Starmer MP, Prime Minister of the United Kingdom …’, or the omission of ‘Sir’?

Sir in this case. Let’s be fair, most Brits wouldn’t know the full honorific.

We got all 32 Counties?

I was under the impression that the 6 we did have weren’t too happy about it atm

Depends who you ask. You could say the same for the Scots.

I do

Good to see Starmer calling out JDs lies in front of the press today!

Interesting to see things in such candid details

Trump tells Zelensky 'make a deal or we're out' in angry White House meeting - follow live - BBC News

What’s annoying me is all this talk of guarantees. ‘We need security guarantees’.

Such a guarantee already exists. It’s the Budapest Memorandum. We have already unilateral agreed to protect Ukraine’s borders as agreed in 1995. If such a memorandum can just be ignored, what good is any other agreement.

Ukraine needs to fight, and it needs our (Europe’s) help more than ever, if America is seriously going to pull away.

I noted the subtle comment from Zelensky that the situation stems back to 2014 when Obama was president implying that Obama should have been more robust.

This meeting sounds like it has, unsurprisingly, gone very badly for Zelensky, and in turn for Europe. Trump’s put a pretty scathing post up on his SM, and they’ve cancelled the news conference the two of them were supposed to be doing shortly. This was when they were supposedly going to sign a deal. That is cancelled.

Just watched parts of the meeting. Trump and JD are absolute POSs. Wouldn’t let Zelensky answer anything, and they were both sprouting completely false narrative rubbish. This has actually annoyed me more than it probably should.

I’d be livid if I was Zelensky.

I suspect he is

Ironically, the mineral resource deal is a security guarantee, because America would have a vested interest in not letting the areas being jointly exploited fall into Russian hands.

Unfortunately, it sounds like that’s off the table at the moment.

And don’t misunderstand me — I’m very disappointed with what I’m seeing from that meeting. I really feel for Zelenskyy, but my mind also gets taken back to something Ben Wallace said.

I almost wonder if Zelensky should pivot big style now. Go and phone up Xi. They’ll happily make a deal.

But that meeting really was an absolute shower of poo. Trump ‘correcting’ Zelensky on the date that Crimea was taken. Funnily enough, Zelensky was right the first time. Then Trump telling Zelensky how bad the war is for the state of his country, as if Zelensky doesn’t know what’s happening. Then Trump spouting off some Russia propaganda rubbish.

The mineral deal is Poland 1939, Putin is playing Hitler and Trump is playing Stalin.

I’m starting to think that Vance is more the Russian asset than Trump.

Vance tried to stir with starmer & Zelensky but starmers a bit cannier & didn’t get into an argument - probably due to his experience of dealing with politicians as director of CPS

I don’t think Vance is bright enough

I do wish people would read the Budapest Memorandum.

The only security guarantee in the BM was that the - at that stage, three other - parties promised not to attack, or seek to coerce Ukraine, and that if if one of the parties did, the others would refer the matter to the UN.

No one promised to come to Ukraine’s aid militarily.
