The Great Tent Pause of 2023

Our local ACF has been issued the stop order but automatically been supplied Mk4’s.

Waiting for the follow on statement that we need to buy branded gazebos from HQ………

Yes i get that in the long term. But as that isnt a process which is completed within 4 weeks and maybe not even 4 months in the short term we’re all in the same boat - it was thst boat i was referring to

One of the AR units we share a site with has been busy dumping all of their MK1 & 2 tents into a skip.

Anyone any closer to knowing a supplier of Mk4? The company in Thirsk who I was told by the supplier of Mk1-3 told me thought made them haven’t replied to either of my messages.

Thats a canvas one…

And obtaining any from any of the forces in the distance future looks worse then remote as they will have to replenish operational units and establish a reserve first and foremost.

Barely! Calling it canvas would be a stretch.

I honestly can’t tell from just looking at them.
Even the canvas ones vary wildly, my parents had a 9x9 which was basically made of moleskin canvas, it was great for sleeping in because it stayed really dark.
Then you had to bail out pretty sharpish, as it was also roasting!

We have been given notice of the issue, however we are not required to stop using them. If suitable replacement mk4s or mk3s are not available, we can continue to use the earlier tents as long as certain additional safety steps are taken (fire extinguishers, fire alarms etc).

Like I mentioned earlier though, round my way we just don’t use these tents that much, perhaps once a year?

That sounds like a proper decision. Keeps people safe, but doesn’t canx loads of activities!

Arguably though, those should be standard steps, not additional? We stayed under canvas for camp at Odiham and needed extinguishers, alarms etc.

Well I don’t know what the JSP says, but these were the additional steps mentioned. Maybe it is because we use them so rarely. Each ACF coy might have a single 9x9 that comes out once a year, if that. Counties might have a 12x12 or two which again might get set up at annual camp, but we rarely have any need to actually sleep in them. We sleep in buildings on camps and under bashas for FTXs. Bashas are more comfortable to be honest.

How tempting is a transfer? The only thing putting me off is the cadets who poop in the urinals…
