My dad dabbles in selling militaria, and this news had reached him independently of me…
Does he want some ’58 pattern webbing? Asking for a friend
No one wants that.
Can you still use it?
According to regulations there’s nothing to say not to.
Why anyone would, I don’t know
Giggles?
Imagine the most hard core Walter Mitty QJL being presented with a cadet with 58 webbing & putties.
Ideally also a Dennison smock for full allyness
They already have 44 pattern. Now THAT was ally stuff.
Cough tents cough
But the good log ‘58 webbing is as old, and made out of the same material, as our tents
We recently got rid of about 30 sets of '58…if I’d have have known you guys were up for some…
Just having a thought the 12x12 along with the 58 webbing would be of interest to re-enactors
Anyone want to set up an ATC re-enactment Sqn set 1980?
Would allow the 12x12, grass hopper gliders & all the old stuff you cans do any more.
Going back to topic - if we can retain the tents as no accommodation tents/event shelter would they still be practical or are there better options out there.
Oh Yes Please!!!
Memory Fade and Rose Tinted Specs accepted but it was sooo simple and fun then
On Topic - Unfortunately Stop means Stop for all usages until new guidance comes out - not that I am expecting it - prob RIP 12x12 and 20 years to find a replacement
Thinking of using the 12x12 frames, with a few parachutes, inside a barn.
Any ideas on the feasibility on that?
We rarely use these tents, so it doesn’t really affect us. They are a pain to setup and pack away, so we just don’t both with them.
Where have you managed to get “a few” let alone one!
To your point.
The risk assessment for this tent would have to be called ‘improvised accom’ or something gash akin.
Liberated a few over the years. Have 3 on the sqn.
All with the risers cut off before being gifted to us, so they can’t be “used” again.
Teflon would be in heaven

Wider question though - as this is MoD wide, how have the army cadets, Sea Cadets & CCFs dealing with this situation.
Shouldn’t that read how are the regulars dealing with this too?
Given its an MOD Wide announcement it implies that the Mk1&2 are routinely in use across the board.
As there is (has been) a general shortage in everything in the MOD it is unlikely Bicester or Stafford have a spare 200 tents in usable condition and the right Mk to spread across Army, Navy and Air Force needs as each Squadron, battalion, Company and Ship find themselves in a stop situation???

Shouldn’t that read how are the regulars dealing with this too?
Not necessarily- the regulars quarantine, audit & then put in a business case for replacement/upgrade involving financial gymnastics to get it through the civil service & in short get their alternative (e.g. donating all the 12x12 to Ukraine & claiming the replacement cost from the foreign office budget on foreign aid)
The cadet forces have all of the detriments of the situation but none of the recourse to the solutions as the funding is not there & the voluntary nature makes it officially “non-essential”
I think the cadet force most likly to use them are CCFs due to storage capacity, separate financial structure & old boys who are major generals.
But CCFs can probably go via headteacher acting as DDH and giving alternative instructions.
I would be interested if the ACF & SCC
- have also been issued with the stop order
- will pay it any attention
