Is a 12x12 ever tactical? They are hardly discreet
Anyone know aboit 9x9s⌠just thowing thay into the mix
Donât pull at that thread!
I didnât have this pegged as an issue tbf
Perhaps they should canvas Sqns to see if anyone has any.
Theyâd use the wrong type of canvas and mandate that we all shutâŚ
Ssssshhhh. One day someone will realise how flammable Spooner huts are.
Looking at the original list, it showed 9x9 also.
It doesnât say what type of tent it refers to GS tents, so thatâs the lot. 9x9 12x12 18x24 included, they are all made of the same material and there are various marks of each. Where is the tent nutter when you need him/her/them. Plus no plan to replace with MK4, saying that the ACF wonât use MK4âs as they are too heavy.
This is an absolute clusterfunt.
Reminds me of when they confiscated the candles from our mess candelabra in our room at Nijmegen as being a fire hazard.
They were unlit. Me pointing out that the whole building is a fire hazard if I set light to it didnât seem to be understood.
That depends on how you deploy them.
So has anyone got any actual solutions to this stupidity?
Any equivalent civvy tents that have the same space and no insane MOD faffage?
Problem is⌠what next.
I donât want to buy a replacement, only to be told⌠sell it.
This is all utter nonsense.
It sort of depends what you use your 12x12 for.
Their are lots of options big 8-10 man tents if you use it as a staff HQ on Camp or event shelters if you use it as a classroom.
Iâve never really found anything as sturdy though. 9x9s 12x12 etc can take an absolute beating and still be pretty fine. Also pretty easy and quick to put up/take down once you know how!
Iâm quite a fan of an air beam tent for Staff Accommodation on DofE these days (although ideally I just book somewhere hardened).
Event shelters are ok, but I agree they donât have the sturdiness that a 12x12 has.
You play around with the side poles to reduce height = warmer if needed, less to camouflage.
Quite hard to find something that isnât very expensive, has the same footprint, height, durability, (relative) ease of putting up / taking down.
Comparable good quality civvie options donât seem to be cheap - 10 person for example.
Coming to this late, and have just read the Stop notice. This is a compliance issue with legacy equipment.
Has there been an identified safety issue with these tents apart from them being made from something that will burn? Has there been any incidents with there tents catching fire and CFAVs or cadets being injured?
If its a case of that they do not meet the BS 7837:1996 and can never be used again, fare enough. If they are dangerous fare enough. If it is the fact that they are so old that they have never been tested and they will need testing before use also fare enough. Would a simple battery powered smoke detector solve the issue?
As a cadet I stayed in two tented camps, the WW muster used 12x12s, RIAT still uses them. As low as reasonably possible and mitigation springs to mind here. Yes, safety is paramount, yes, we must do the best for our cadets. Yes, we have to be safe.
If the Mk1 and Mk2 12x12s get binned wither there be a pathway for replacements?
