I think if the MOD is going to mandate us not using them, our HQ should be pushing for replacements. These were private purchase items I imagine for the vast majority of units, and to treat private purchase items as if they were issued means a financial loss for many units to the tune of hundreds of pounds.
A lot of them were gifted to units as a quick means of disposal.
This is where the issue comes in as the reason the tents were being get rid off was due to the very issue why they are being quarantined.
I think the MoD clamped down on equipment disposal via cadet units after the Kaylee McIntosh incident.
If the tents are on inventory then a replacement should be sourced, particularly if regular used.
If private purchase (& evidenced) then replacement/compensation offered.
However if gifted then itās probably going to be a case of tough luck.
Which will never be the case as they wouldāve been bought long enough ago that receipts would be long gone.
Can the tents be retrospectively be treated wirh fire retardent?
That sounds like far too much of a sensible idea for the MOD to do!
Or just stipulate that it is mandatory to have the appropriate fire extinguisher when the tents are erected or in storage. I know itās a āreactiveā measure but itās definitely more proportionate to the risk along with other measuresā¦. No sockets etc
Yes. And there are several suppliers of this!!
In fact, the MOD did used to treat them with Mystox TRP (NSN: 8030-99-225-1573) which, so the safety data sheet says, āRefurbishes canvas and restores shade, flame retardancy, water resistance and rot resistanceā.
Itās not a particularly eco-friendly product, so maybe the MOD abandoned itās usage? But have now realised that in doing so, theyāve essentially condemned all their fabric tents???
was at RIAT last year and even though the tents were hotter than the surface of the sun - no tents combusted. Feel sorry for the staff that have scrimped and saved to get old ones to be told - they canāt be used even though as far as Iām aware none have ever burnt down.
Another own goal.
Sadly not off to RIAT This year.
Perhaps itās not the fire risk itself but the fact when set on fire the proofing produces highly toxic fumes that will kill quite quickly.
The canvas will be fine but everybody will have been suffocated. I think it use to be hydrogen cyanide that use to be produced in the old sofas so something we donāt want lit near people.
Superb - dudes, when you get home from work, do this stuff while weāre on leave.
Laters, bruv.
It does read thst way.
Easter weekend plans be that wuth Cadets offering an experience or quality time eith family now at jeopardy given that short deadlines for a volunteer
Interestingly thatās what Region fed back to the centre āhalf our staff on camp the rest are on holiday this needs more timeā
I mean at least you got it
Without clicking on it, is that a wing thing? Corps wide?
HQAC surplants the lists some of the regions were already running.
This is the post I tried to do without the links back to me (hopefully!)
Had this today:
"With the reference to Stop Notice BADER., please disseminate below audit in all locations that hold Mk1 and Mk 2 tents. The returns are to be provided by 12 Apr 23.
Cascade the audit of planned activities across your Areas of Responsibility down to Sqn level that require the use of GST by completing this - Planned Use of GST Mk 1 & 2 Audit
Cascade the audit of all RAFAC locations that hold Mk1 and Mk 2 tents by completing this - Location Audit "
a lot of summer camps will be in trouble
{ā[cynic mode on]} There was a 12x12 survey done earlier. Many didnāt reply due to said 12x12 being unit property and not wanting to have to ālendā them to somewhere else and not get their tents back . Now there is a stop making them useless and another audit. {[cynic mode offā]}
I just donāt get how they can mandate we canāt use āunsafeā tents, when the policy is to sell them on the civvy market?
Itās like declaring gliders unsafe and then giving them to disabled kids to fly.
