The Great Tent Pause of 2023

Well, you won’t be sleeping in it?

I do note the date of release as December 2022.

I find it concerning that it has taken HQAC a significant amount of time (between 3 and 4 months) between the raising of the safety issue in the MoD and its reporting to RAFAC units.
What is also concerning is RAFAC CFAVs are not allowed access to or set is alerts for notifications from SNvE. We have tor rely on people with “proper” modnet accounts to access the information for us.

I completely missed the Dec 22 bit! Why the hell did we get a complete stop order issued in April, when the actual safety notice stop order had been rescinded with a new safety notice issued saying you can use them…

Was it just that no one had been looking at the safety notices and was working though a backlog? They got to the 1634 note, saw the ban, issued the stop order. Then took a few days to get through to 1657 saying we are now allowed!

But it’s a bit weird as the document names have dates that don’t match the safety notice. For example 1657 says it was issued Dec 22, but the name is 20230421… Likewise, 1634 says 20230324

The email chain i have seen from the MOD to commands, then down to CF, was about 5 days before the stop notice…

So the question is, why has it taken MOD so long?

So they say they will try and get a replacement for “high profile events”, but what about those of us having them on squadron? How are we going to be supported to replace ours? Even if they could give us the supplier details as my efforts haven’t gone anywhere.

And whose definition are we using?

HQAC might consider a royal visit to be high profile, but a bonfire night recruiting opportunity could be high profile at an individual unit level.

‘high profile’ means HQAC and it’s mates stuff - not high profile means any of the crap that you peasants do…

Uploaded to Sharepoint 5 days ago But only now put out properly!!:laughing:

Glad they made this change, I was worried the cadets of today wouldn’t learn the distinctive smell of the 12x12…

do the Mk3/4 smell different?

if so this could be a quick way to identify them!

Good point, hadn’t considered that… Surely they don’t smell of WWII

The WW2 canvas smells nicer because it doesn’t have the same chemical treatment.

I’ve heard that a tented camp is being moved into hard accommodation due to lack of tents. The huge down side of this is a reduction in the already small number of cadet places for the camp

That’ll be a fun conversation to tell cadets that they don’t have a camp place any more. Don’t know if it’s just one station or UK wide

It would be a whole lot harder telling cadets that there will no longer be a camp at all. I’m sure that the camp concerned will have put a significant effort into ensuring that accommodation is made available and cadets will still get a camp.

I think the point @grounded was making above is that this tent issue is causing a direct reduction in camp places. Said camp may still be going ahead, but some cadets who thought they were going now can’t. because there isn’t enough accom.

Doubt it as camp places were all ready out at Region/Wing level before the tent (farce) pause was dropped across MOD.

Those stations who use tentage were absent from what could be found on Sharepoint.

I’m certain that the ACLO team have done an amazing job to switch from tents to hard accommodation and squeeze cadets into the very limited capacity available, rather than cancelling.

I’m not criticising their efforts, just reporting the impact that the ‘tent pause’ is having. There are fewer cadet places on the camp due to lack of tents, that’s the fact.

Yes quite, lots of ACLOs working hard this summer. Halton lost the usual block 3 days before camp but instead of cancelling they moved everything to another block - which didn’t at the time even have blinds on the windows - and it was all ready for the start of camp. Amazing commitment. But the Stn Cdr is clearly very pro cadets (ex ATC).
