The Great Tent Pause of 2023

Oh wow, what happened to the Cadet block?

They can’t remember where they put it, it’ll turn up eventually

When i did a summer camp in the late 90s that was the block we stayed in.

When I was camp com in circa 2015 it was still the cadet block (with no decorating or maintenance in between)

I believe it use to be the apprentices block as well going back to the ‘60s

They determined it was a fire hazard and paused its use.

Was it made of 12x12 fabric???

How could it be a fire hazard?

It was 90% 1960s asbestos!

The lead paint decor would have also prevented anything spreading.

Years of accumulated grease from occupants supplementing their rations with a burger from Peg’s?

I miss Peg’s.

Ablutions, I believe, probably the old drain issues got so bad they finally capitulated. The replacement block had Gucci refurbished ablutions.

So when does the outbreak of common sense start

Might have to be slightly more specific than that.

They’ve already allowed MK1 and MK2 to be used for non-residential with mitigations in place.

i thought that was always allowed.

Mk1&2 were only banned for accommodation purposes, there was nothing to suggest they could not be used for other reasons…(although given the nature of a “tent” being for accommodation accept that 90% of the time these are used for accommodation purposes)

The initial comms we received were to “quarantine” mk 1 and mk 2 for disposal.

It turns out that by the time we had received those comms, a decision had already been made to permit the non-residential use but that this had not been effectively communicated.

Just in time for RIAT then.

So is there going to be any compensation to units who got rid of therir tents?

I doubt it.

Ironically if you are one of those ‘rogue’ Sqn cdrs who completely ignored all instructions regarding the tents & didn’t tell anyone you are now quids in because you’ve still got your tent AND haven’t wasted your time trying to jump through all the hoops when everyone panicked.

I’ve got an idea that the ACF had re-cleared their tents for use before we even started our pause but I might have mis-remembered that.
