Supervisory Care Directive Published

It’s the rules and therefore sacrosanct as breaking it could lead to treason.

D&I won’t like that……

The “fix” to female cover is what has been occurring, namely you need a staff member from each sex when conducting residential activity overnight but not on a parade night (where parents are easily accessible to come down if needed).

I think the care directives poor format is what has muddled this aspect up.

Nah. The SCD is perfectly clear.

All activity requires both male and female supervisors on duty/call where a group is mixed gender.

(Para 8g)

Am I right in thinking this is still in consultation/draft phase or has this been implemented? I’ve already given my feedback, so what’s the point in feedback if it’s already in situ?

Also I’m seeing it being implemented for events lately so they’re asking for more staff for ratios etc.

It’s kind of a Schrödinger policy. It’s both live policy but also doesn’t become live until the 1st of October. But you also need to follow it now. But it also might change between now and then.

Yeah.

Effective from, but to be implemented immediately to test over the summer.

In a car it is allowed to have one CFAV with cadets, but cadets should sit in the rear seats, not in the front alongside the driver.

Taking this policy to it’s logical conclusion, Viking is OK as it is tandem seating but we are going to have to ditch the Tutors and bring back Chipmunks.

That is not what the directive says.

Lone Driving1 (Staff/CFAV transporting multiple cadets).

e. If it is necessary as a lone driver to drive cadet(s) then the cadets should occupy the rear seats rather than alongside the driver.

The implications of the (s) suggests that it’s permissible to transport a single cadet which seems very much at odds with the rest of the directive?

It says transporting single cadet would be allowed only in an emergency where not transporting the cadet would cause harm.

19. Transportation/Travel. Arrangements and guidelines for transporting cadets are detailed at Reference B and the RAFAC Travel and Transportation Policy at Annexes D and E.

a. Supervisory ratios for travel. By whatever means cadets are being transported, where RAFAC has assumed travel responsibility, there shall always be 2 or more CFAVs28 available to supervise cadets, with additional supervisors in accordance with the RAFAC Travel and Transportation Policy (see Annexes D and E) and/or any additional needs of the group.

Yes, so it’s not “allowed”, it’s an emergency exception…

And 2 CFAV needed for flying. Which is now mostly on weekdays.

And that will kill flying for us as we can only get 1 cfav due to work commitments

Same here - chances of having two CFAV’s available for a mid-week slot are probably about 1 week in 25. Chances of one being male and one female are laughable.

We genuinely may as well write girls can join the ATC, but they are not allowed to fly on our Facebook page.

Likewise, on my unit it’s often me being a uni student and generally only me available. If we need 2xCFAV for flying that’s it effectively binned for us.

We struggle to cover weekday flying slots as it stands, and with the high likelihood of cancellation it’s hard to persuade people to take a day’s leave.

I thought the Tutor was only a two seater? (In a sarcastic tone, if we need two staff in a car why not in an aircraft!?)

This is for escorting CFAV cover on the AEF itself rather than in aircraft
