There were brownies on BBC breakfast yesterday.
Just with mum, in the queue, but still getting the brand out there.
We’ve got cadets involved in some pretty major local ceremonial events today - they were on BBC News yesterday for the rehearsals.
Air cadet all over
I mean the King will be there - it’s just not in London and is taking place less than two miles away from the squadron, hence local. It’s national for us, but know a lot of people wouldn’t view it that way.
Best of luck for the event. No doubt, you’ll do us all proud.
Cool beans
I went with civvies and my RAFVR tie, from the olden days when we were VR(T).
We have been informed this afternoon that all Squadron Parade Activites on Mon 19th Sep are cancelled in a mark of respect for the state funeral.
Out of interest has anyone been told similar as this seems different from the information in the IBN?
Appreciate some have already taken the decision to hold off parading again until after the state funeral but we decided to continue to keep some momentum going with our new intake of cadets who are only a few evenings in.
Same comms here. Whole Wing stood down and no activities to take place.
Actually it should be an evening when Squadrons should parade to pay respects to Her Majesty and if desired come together if it wishes to renew the cadets promise to the King.
We paraded both days this week but as Monday is a Bank Holiday and our unit closes on all bank holidays we have chosen to close as normal.
Have you checked the up to date IBN. Pretty sure V3 says no activity on Monday.
Same.
Yeah just double checked V3 and as far as i can see routine activity is still permitted.
We normally open as planned on bank holidays. Just frustrating that we have already paraded this week and told cadets we would be open as normal Monday. Now we have to try and get in contact with cadets over the weekend to tell them this is no longer the case.
Or just crack on and follow the IBN
Is this dorset wilts wing or all wings
We’re a different Wing in a different Region and we received an email yesterday morning daying Parade Nights on Monday 19th to be cancelled.
We could see that coming despite the earlier IBNs so already made the decision to close.
We were also down on attendance last night as a lot are taking the opportunity to get away for a long weekend, either visiting family or gone camping.
I’m in a different region, got the same message. We don’t parade on a Monday, but it’s just tedious at this point.
Real worrying trend (although seems to be in the minority!) of do it anyway what they going to do get rid of us, we are volunteers and they are short of volunteers.
Such a dangerous attitude to have - and it’s people with your opinion that cause additional problems for the rest of us.
Of course different youth organisations are going to have different rules - they are governed by different bodies. Us and the Army cadets are bound by our parent services, who the parent service has a no uniform policy, and have got the same million emails saying stop, don’t go in uniform, don’t go to MOD Main Building, don’t post anything on social media if your in an affiliated role.
The Sea Cadets, although supported by the Navy are not governed by them; but there own charity. Same as the Scouts, Guides, Brownies. Therefore they will get additional guidance.
I get the frustrations (and have myself) about mixed messages/unclear/knee jerk reactions from middle management but they gave us timeframe and they’ve hit those time frames - even if it’s not within the time they want. And even opened a Teams channel to all staff who want it as soon as it’s ready.
There are many things HQAC don’t get right or could do better (as we probably all have on our Sqn) but they aren’t out to deliberately “get” the volunteers and make it harder than it has to be.
Whether it’s a sensible reason or not (and absolutely on occasions not) there is always a justification behind a decision.
That mentality is growing and at the moment I can see why. The lack of communication around why decisions are made is the big issue.
As volunteers who do this as a hobby and often have day jobs where we have more responsibility, being treated like we wouldn’t understand has a knock on effect. Especially when morale is low.
The commandant and SLT need to understand this and get better at it.
