RAFAC Attitude Survey 2020

it would put an end to anything overnight if 12 hours was the limit people stuck to as a maximum.

Going to raise my head above the parapet here. The 12 hour minimum is just that - it’s the minimum you commit to the organisation if you wish to wear a uniform. Nowhere does it say that you are expected to do only 12 hours, and similarly nowhere does it say you have to do more.

In the many roles and commands I’ve had in the organisation I have uniformed people in my teams do the minimum, and been thankful to them for what they have been able/choose to do. I have had people in my teams choose to do way more than the 12 hours and I’ve been thankful for that as well.

It seems to be forgotten that our part of the organisation is voluntary, and it is a hobby. If we want to wear a uniform as part of our hobby, the organisation rightly mandates some things from us, including the 12 hour minimum. But, again, this is a hobby. And as a hobby I get a huge amount of enjoyment from it (despite the sometimes frustrating bits) and I gladly invest a lot more than the minimum because I still find my hobby fun, challenging and rewarding.

It is true that things would start to fall to pieces if all of our uniformed staff did the minimum, but why would we? For as long as there are those of us still enjoying our hobby, there will continue to be the necessary pool of people that will voluntarily commit the necessary time (in excess of 12 hours) to do the voluntary roles that we have volunteered to perform in our volunteer organisation.

Mk 7 donned!

And now there is a Sports Survey…

Seen on soshial meejia first, haven’t heard anything official yet!!

Also here.

This is YOUR chance … to CHANGE the FUTURE of RAF Air Cadets Sports.

The strategy is the start of a complete review of the 7 Corps sports we offer.

We want to provide you (cadets and volunteers) the opportunity to have your say on the sports and what direction it takes.

The future of Corps sports will be heavily influenced by this survey, we ask you to take 2-5 minutes completing these questions enabling the RAF Air Cadets to provide the best sporting experience for all.

The survey can also be found on the RAF Air Cadets - Cadet Portal and Bader.

@themajor beat me to it…

The sports Survey has not been tested… You can pick only 1 of a multiple choice:

And can answer as many of these as you like:

I would hope if they expect us to waste time doing these they would take 5 minutes of their own time to check them!

Ta!! Rookie mistake - was looking for the email! Doh.

Same for Q.8 - favourite sport - no “none of the above” option.

Is there a response for… bin all off Sqn sport and focus on more worthwhile activities.

Wonder what the LGBT+ reps think of there only being two genders on the survey

Something about managing Comms to the masses (on repeat)

I was looking for the option of bin all sports except for athletics (which is a fun, sociable day out for the Wing) but couldn’t find it so didn’t bother to submit. We’ve got too much to do already and sports adds very little for 99.9% of cadets.

I’ve been looking for the bin sports and buy more blanks option but it’s not there!

Can I somehow vote against all sport? Though as much as I dislike doing them, I do actually think they should be desegregated to an extent.

Email from Wg Sports Off just hit the inbox.

I saw someone looking for taekwondo I’m wondering is it maybe beneficial for people to ask for the sport of… gliding

I had to randomly pick 7 sports as the question had no bearing on my input and I don’t personally like any of the listed options. It’ll skew their results a little but that is their own stupid fault for not thinking through the survey!

There should be mixed sports - whether that is current sports but mixed; the current sports with a “mixed” tranche; or specifically chosen, new, mixed sports probably doesn’t matter but I would say that the individual sports we currently have seem to be very poorly supported up here so I don’t now what the best way forward would be.

I’m sure I’ve said this on here before quite recently, but I think we could sort out the various age categories so there greater consistency and less opportunity for confusion. Simply following NGB guidelines for the specific sports is an easy route but their age limits will be every bit as arbitrary as ones we came up with ourselves (assuming we don’t deviate wildly) and we only need to worry about the national standards if we every build a cadet team to compete at that level.

The three branches of the armed forces are all very keen on triathlon - why doesn’t that feed through to the cadets ?

I highly doubt most staff would fit into a Trisuit, so probably the reason we dont offer it out as much. Plus the cost of kit (bike) is pretty high.

Guarantee that if the notion came through to teach a particular sport they’d say we have to be qualified in it.
