To be perfectly honest, I’m surprised this isn’t the case already given the potential for injury to participants.
It has never made sense that the corps insists on us having NGB qualifications for AT, but completely ignores sports.
Indeed, and I reckon the accident data would suggest it should follow a similar model.
Yet, the Corps offers sports leader awards that you can’t do anything with.
Where are these opportunities published? I’ve never heard of any opportunities to do the course, but i’m intrigued.
oh i can see it happening too, however
is there a easily achieved NGB qualification in the sports we do?
I know there will be “coaching” courses for these sports, but I am talking something viable for a volunteer.
The next comment will be the local town U15 football team is run by volunteers and their course is 4 weekends of effort (or something not viable for us).
is there something suitable for occasional use??
if not perhaps this is why there hasn’t been the word from above?
should each sport require BEL level of commitment for Football, Rugby, Hocket, Netball, Swimming, Cross Country it would kill sports in an instant.
Even the most keen CFAVs on Sports i know don’t have anything more than experience on their side, and perhaps 20 years ago (and 10-20kgs ago) used to play for a town/county team so know more than most.
They’ve been advertised locally in our Wing a few times, but I’m not sure how we come by it in the first place.
My Wg Sports Officer organises them in conjunction with one of the Local Authorities in our area but they are aimed squarely at cadets.
He’s also been very successful at securing funding from a national sports body to offset the costs for cadets.
Pretty sure that argument was made in the transition to NGB qualifications for AT as well. It didn’t kill it.
Lowland Leader is a 24 day commitment, ML 50 days. 4 weekends for a Sports coaching qual is easy!
I would love to meet someone who did the absolute bare minimum 50 days for ML. Most are way over that.
Depends what Wing you are in!
that is assuming it is 4 weekends…i just used that figure.
How many CFAVs will be looking to complete a sports course for the half a dozen evenings when sports is run in the year? will the course be generic or specific to one sport?
will a football qual cover rugby, or running in the park?
does a Netball qual cover football or swimming???
To resurect this thread, The Scouts have launched their “Scout Experience Suvey 2021” which surveys Parents, Carers, Adult Volunteers and members of “Network” (the over-18 but not a leader section).
Should we be doing similar, or is a survey every year too much?
I wouldn’t mind a survey every year if there was then a call to action. Too often a survey is done but very little changes to improve the situation for those of us at ground level.
I work within a team that surveys our employees annually but we then focus on the key areas that are niggling everyone. This is communicated and changes made and everyone’s morale increases along with productivity. If HQAC can do that then yes, go for an annual survey.
Exactly this If there aren’t clear actions after a survey, no-one will be interested in doing another one
We have an annual survey at work and mini surveys throughout the year, had similar with every large employer over the last 30 odd years. Great if done well and change occurs for the better but what I’ve noticed, especially with larger organisations is that if they don’t like the response the question gets removed and they try and replace it with something else they hope will get the response they want.
We had a question about planning to look for another job that steadily moved from majority expecting to stay where they are for long term, 3yrs plus to no intention of looking, to majority being in the I’m looking/6 months category over a 2 year period so they replaced it with would you recommend the company as a good place to work. They now can’t understand why when most responses are generally positive there are a high number that choose low scores for this question and are now looking to replace it with another one that will get an answer senior management are happier with.
How much has come out of the surveys, questionnaires etc we have done wrt to the Air Cadets? This should be used to gauge whether doing them is of any benefit to us.
The problem is do one at work those charged with doing something will invariably get some degree of benefit from the outcomes, so you do see things happen. Take into account they want a generally happy workforce so doing nothing is not an option.
Contrast with Air Cadets where we complete the surveys etc and those charged with doing anything about the responses couldn’t be more detached so have no benefit or interest whatsoever with whatever is supposed to be implemented, yet it would be in their best interests to make beneficial things happen.
If we take the last survey. The results were published and then lockdown. So they have had a good 12 months where they will have been doing less than they ordinarily do, to sort things out and all there has been is tumbleweed blowing down the street.
Before even considering another one, let’s see them do something with the last one. Then we can do one which reflects the position after it.
I’ve done biannual ones in my last job and if nothing had come of the last one, this was expressed.
The wording of the responses and scaling lends itself to ‘soft’ responses, which lead to a position of management doing nothing as the analysis makes it look like things are OK.
Surveying cadets and parents etc could be useful but as has been said, would anything be done. Also, what would we want to be asking. Possibly one for a year or 2.
I think it was a recommendation for the CFAV one to be repeated but if it’s being completed and nothing is done with the results there isn’t much point - it’s just a waste of resources - proper survey design and analysis can be a lot of work.
I’d be interested to see what HQ are doing and where the action plan is. Particularly as there were some ‘quick wins’. Possibly one for the VoV page?
Definately one to ask.
“Has the Comdt read the report from the CFAV Attitudes survey, and is there any actions that plan to be taken based off of it?”
Sounds good. I would ask but VoV doesn’t seem to like being accessed by a mobile and that is all I have access to at the moment.
I’d probably add ‘read the report and recommendations’. Obviously the recommendations are in the report but make it clear that there is stuff there already.
