RAF IBN 95/24 - wearing No2 SD jersey without a tie

Crew necks are the best. I rate it up there with my leather buckle stable belt

Does it really confuse ā€˜proscribed’ and ā€˜prescribed’?

[sigh]

Frankly I’ve been wearing a jumper with no tie for years and I couldn’t care less that ā€˜technically the book says’. Rules are guidance, to be applied with wisdom.

How do I send this to my OC and Sector comander without a demotion

I think that for uniform, there ain’t much guidance per se, it’s rules, otherwise AP1358C wouldn’t / couldn’t dictate uniform standards.

How can staff advise a cadet that the cadet’s uniform standards are lacking if they don’t obey by the rules?

Must admit I am a crusty old traditionalist (never thought I would say that when I 1st sat in the mess in the mid 80s  )
V-Neck with out a tie looks pants!!!

…and you still have to carry one to put on if you take the jumper off

If we go back to round necks then maybe but we still need rules that fit when you take the jumper off.

What next - 3 buttons undone and a 70s chest wig and medallions
thats-funny

something like this ?

I am sure the average RAFAC staff member would rock it!

Fixed that for you.

Personally, my approach will be to wear a tie with a long-sleeved shirt and not to with short-sleeves, but I think the rules have been relaxed beyond this level to allow ties to be removed for comfort, regardless of the shirt being worn under the jumper (with no outwardly-visible difference).

Even better… :smiling_imp:

Only if you are wearing a long sleeve shirt… when was the last time you took the jumper off on a day you wore it?

I think the point of the change is an attempt to transform the jumper from something that was only ever worn when prescribed as part of No. 2 (Full) SD or by aircrew to show off their brevets, to an optional piece of uniform worn over the shirt to keep warm (without having to wear a tie, which some people seem to find uncomfortable).

Interesting. The RAF IBN and AP 1358 don’t specify the collar has to be worn outside; I’ve seen it worn inside by people close to the SLT.

ā€œCollar should be worn outside of the jersey (jumper)ā€

Arggghhhhh! :face_vomiting:

I owe you £5, @tmmorris .

RAFAC has indeed now followed the lead of our parent service verbatim, and repeated this inexcusable mis-spelling.

If the hard-core public sector & arms of government get this type of thing consistently wrong, the English language is already dead…

Out of curiosity, as a national organisation, is there an obligation that ACP1358 is also provided in Welsh?

I think we should have it as an audiobook for accessibility and insomnia purposes.

Sounds like something to push to Aspire or ASTRA.

But… only if i can have it in Klingon too…

So why have we taken something that is in parent service regs but added extra rules to it?
