Please could somebody with access to modnet give the gen here? Hoping Christmas has come early!
From a Service source:
I guess that will filter down to RAFAC in about 6 monthsā¦
Standards are slipping!
Already asked the question dw.
Tie remains for now, until HQAC comms
Although im not against this change tbh
I can confirm I spent all of the last working week in a jumper with no tie (because Iād forgotten my belt, rather than any keenness to be a trendsetter).
KEY POINTS
ā¢ All RAF SP are permitted to wear a jumper without a tie, regardless of the shirt type, as
part of their daily working dress.
ā¢ If RAF SP are wearing a long sleeve shirt and the jumper is removed, a tie must be worn.
ā¢ This change does not affect No 2 SD or No 2A SD. When RAF SP are proscribed to
wear No 2 SD or No 2A SD, RAF SP must wear a tie as stated within AP 1358.
Does that extend to āregardless of style of jumperā?
Yes. And words
It does, sir. Hereās the revised wording:
Old 0215. Jersey. Only the service issue crew neck jersey or V-neck style jersey is to be worn with working dress modes. Stable belts are not to be worn outside the jersey. When not wearing a proscribed order of dress, a short sleeve shirt may be worn under a jersey with the addition of
a tie. When worn with the GPJ the bottom of the jersey is not to protrude below the waistband ofthe jacket.New 0215. Jersey. Im sure some WWO will impose local rules on round neck vs V Neckā¦
They will just prescribe an order of dress or say itās not been updated in cadet dress regs.
They are both equally valid. In fact, KCS (who set the gold standard through example) only wear crew necked jerseys (I have no idea where the young AS1s get them from!)
A bit like the brief āofficers can wear beretsā interlude, it probably means supply have run out of ties!
Iām not saying youāre wrong, but different official reasons are given:
The Dress Policy Steering Group (DPSG) has reviewed the policy and decided to remove the need to wear a tie with the jumper to help support comfort in the workplace.
If you ask nicely
Which is valid as we follow acp1358 and RAFAC IBNs not AP1358 or RAF IBNs.
Will you pull me up in the new year when I wear a short sleeve shirt without the tie (save the risk of it getting warm and needing to suddenly find a tie?)
Will look rubbish with a V-Neck Jersey and no tie, especially if the jumper is older and losing elasticity.
Shame i lost my Round Neck Jumper.
A jumper like that will look rubbish anyway (shirt epaulettes showing, etc.) beyond anything a tie could save.
Only because the issue ones are generally terrible. Iād love for a sketch artist to draw an āanatomically correctā human based on RAF v-necks ā the stuff of horrors.
Itās possible to source very nice v-neck jumpers if you know where to look.
Might not look as good without a tie, but itās great news that weāve finally decided to focus on the purpose of garments maximising comfort rather than essentially insisting you could only ever throw a jumper on if wearing a long-sleeved shirt and tie.
Where?
I managed to snag an old one from the back of our stores but it would be for emergency use only I fear.
I was also gifted a very nice green woolly pully new in packet (Jumper, Green, Olive, Not In ACP1358, For the Annoying of WOs)
