RAF IBN 95/24 - wearing No2 SD jersey without a tie

How long have you been in RAFAC?

Too long!

Yes. As a national public organisation all of its documentation must be available in both English and Welsh. This is enshrined in the Welsh language act 1993.

Does this apply to ACPs then as well? (& e-learning when you think of it)

Yep, you betcha.

Quite easily. I’ve never had an issue with it. When looking at a body of cadets, are they smart, tidy, presentable, representing the RAF well, and clean & tidy? If those are all yes, crack on. Badges being 0.1mm off the correct position, shoes not KCS, etc doesn’t massively phase me and I’m amazed when it does. It’s a kids club after all.

(No offence intended to anyone - just my humble opinions).

When a member of the public sees us, will they think “gosh the RAF look jolly smart today”? If it’s a yes, job done.

It’s all part of “OP fluffy”. I can’t see why we don’t ditch the dark blue shirt. Give the kids a short sleeve and long sleeved shirt as basic issue. When they are on public parade shirt and tie. off parade shot sleeved shirt with or without jumper. Simples. Next thing the MoD will do is stop issuing ties.

We need them for No. 1 SD, but they should be clip-on. Why do we get a choice of pre-tied or self-tie bow ties, but don’t have clip-on ties?

Said that further up. There’s probably no ties in the supply chain!

3 reasons:
A correctly tied tie should have the tip touching/just above the belt buckle. This depends on the length of individual torsos so having a self tied tie allows people to tie it at the right length.
It’s also cheaper to have only a short and long tie in the supply chain rather than a variety of clip ones.
Finally, knowing how to tie a tie is a useful skill for service and civilian life therefore 100% aligned with our raison d’ĂȘtre

Outside cadets, in the last 5 years I’ve only worn a tie for weddings and funerals.

None of the candidates I’ve interviewed at work have worn ties, nor would I expect them to. No one wears a tie in the office.

It’s a skill that’s increasing not valuable.

You’re just demonstrating its value by explaining its rarity

If we only wore them with No. 1 SD (or No. 2 Full for cadets) then the length wouldn’t matter.

I was at a conference in London yesterday, about 3/4 people there (about 150 attendees) were wearing ties (including me, wear one most days at work!)

The only people I know who regularly wear ties these days are accountants, undertakers, and detectives. And off-duty army officers.

Wrong on all three counts! (and most accountants now wear either gilets or quarter zips both without ties!)

I’ll break the trend and wear a cravat

That is acceptable

Could you wear long or short sleeves with this???

(also apologies for the camera quality, it was taken on a laptop lol)
