MTP boots?
Personally, I’d recommend brown hiking boots.
DofE discount for Magnums at Blacks/Millets/GoOutdoors branches especially if there is an offer on.
Otherwise you’re probably better off trying second hand at a nearby army surplus place, a used issued pair of YDS/Bates/Itturi are a better bet than the cadet type brands.
You might find there’s more choice in MOD Brown than black now though.
Absolutely, it’s a decade and a half since combat boots were issued in black (not counting ammo boots or safety boots).
The Navy still issue black boots, but they might be safety ones?
QQ:
Is there a policy reference stating that cadets need to be “Second Class” before attending off-squadron activities?
I’ve heard it a few times, but from a quick search I can’t find it written anywhere.
Second class means a cadet who is enrolled. Junior cadet is a cadet has not been enrolled.
I don’t think there’s a policy saying cadet must be second class per se but i think there are some policies that say cadets must be enrolled.
Enrolment could consist of them making belt promise on their first night without parents etc.
Specifically which part/s of London…?
As other say it does depend on the activity but most require the cadets to be enrolled i.e. second class cadets
The argument I’ve heard is something to do with insurance only covering bona fide cadets or something like that, and they’ve interpreted bona fide to mean enrolled. Check ACP 300 but I don’t think you’ll find anything.
I have. I couldn’t find anything.
Also looked, nothing in there about enrolment etc. This is the relevant section:
Clearly states it will cover all members. I would say a cadet is a member the day they join. You could argue they are a member from the day they are added to SMS too, but that should be pretty soon after joining!
In reality, there probably aren’t that many “formal” off-unit opportunities - most might require uniform - unless you’ve got a super-speedy parent unit who can action uniform demands quickly.
Social events in civvies - don’t see an issue.
Do you have example policy references for this?
Using enrolment as a yardstick, without any clear definition of when a cadet should be enrolled, and how, is nonsense.
In one definition, I wasn’t enrolled fully until several years into my career, as my unit lacked a padre.
Not off the top of my head but must blue courses have it as a requirement
I thought it was after either Part 1 or Part 2 of First Class? So in theory they’re in uniform and know the basics. That might just be how we do it though.
2nd this.
Really intersting and great to see the actual mail tunnels!
5 years, still no enrolment
Hi, I would like to know that if I am scheduled to go flying, but there is sleet and a tad bit of snow. Would they cancel it or not?
Depends on the state of the runway and the cloud base.
I have had Cadets go up from 1AEF with snow on the ground, will be a call made the night before if possible, if not early on the day itself.
