Indeed, further fuel for the train obsession - you can take a short ride on Mail Rail
Hop on/hop off bus tour. Plus a river cruise. Just spend all day going around and around and seeing the sites from the bus.
And a walk through Hyde Park to see the birds etc.
And the Lego shop.
If you’re after views, the Oxo Tower is free.
Although it’s technically through a restaurant, we just asked to go to the balcony and there were more than happy to let us through.
For views I’d argue “The Garden at 120” Fenchurch Street tops the lot - made even better by the fact it’s free with no booking needed.
The river bus service (as in the ones run by Transport for London, not the tourist ones) are great value. You just touch in and out with contactless cards, no need to book.
But they do have an actual bar (and coffee and cake and stuff) on board too.
The IFS Cable Car? (Formally the Emirates Cable Car)
between Greenwich Peninsula and the Royal Docks, just 5 minutes’ walk from The O2 and North Greenwich Underground station.
Bit further out, but the Horniman Museum in Forest Hill is definitely worth a visit!
Tate modern. Also free.
Tate Modern!!..wow that’s one advanced toddler!
I was also going to suggest ideal home exhibition.
Had to be dragged round it as a youngling so no reason baby @SecretSquirrel should be exempt from this right of passage…
Thanks all! We’ve settled on transport and then just mooching the south bank. Underground with a toddler and a baby might be a step too far so fairly local to Thameslink stations!
Hi,
Does anyone have the headteacher flying absence form, as I can’t find it on portal?
Thanks
As far as I’m aware, there isn’t one.
Ask your sqn aviation officer to draft an email, this might work as an example:
This is to confirm that one of our cadets, XXXXXXX has been allocated an air experience flying slot at RAF YYYYYY on ZZZZZZZ;
Not surprisingly, flying (& gliding) are high value events that are core activities within the Air Training Corps that relate to our overall ethos.
These flyings slots are comparatively rare (historically, we get about CCCC per year for a squadron of some BBBBB cadets) & these are currently allocated during a week day due to resource issues at weekends for RAF YYYYYYYY. As such, they are generally given to cadets who are active members of the squadron who participate well across all our activities; XXXXXXXX is one such cadet; they joined our Squadron just over AA years ago.
Please can they be given permission to attend & miss school studies for the day. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to email or call.
Here’s one I threw together for my cadets
There is an official one, albeit still with Air Cdre McCafferty’s signature. Its made available to cadets via Cadet Portal at the bottom of this page.
Yep, but out of date, & locally, certainly from our expectations, the admission person / teacher just wants a brief email to ask for the time off. Has worked so far…
Yeah certainly not denying that other, more brief, and much more up to date, notes may be just as effective. More trying to note its existance, for better or worse.
The South Bank Centre is great if you just need somewhere to pause and relax a second too.
One of the few spaces in London that’s open to the public to enjoy for whatever reason. And the singing elevator is always a laugh.
The National History Museum and the Science Museum are both free. Same for the RAF Museum although that’s a bit further out.
You have the IWM at Lambeth
Hi, can anyone recommend cheap black MTP boots from eBay or somewhere please?
Thanks
