Quick Questions…

The weather considerations for AEF flying are quite strict - they would normally be flown under "Visual Meteorological Conditions (VMC ) = set limits for visibility & cloudbase.

Active sleet & snow would probably not allow VMC conditions - & also, I don’t think that the AEFs have de-icing equipment.

The snow has set and it isn’t due to be coming any time soon

Maybe - but the runways & taxiways need to be clear of ice of snow for normal operations. There may or may not be snow clearing equipment - & environmentally, there are airfields where they are not permitted to put “preventative” chemicals on the runway, etc.

QQ: Anyone else had issues with Google Drive today?

Doesn’t seem to be working for us.

The new F80 guidance says the filename must be in the format: YYYYMMDD-F80-SURNAME-RANK-SERVICE NO-OSP

Does OSP stand for something I have to fill in, or do I just do 20241129-F80-BALDRICK-FGOFF-123456789-OSP??

OSP is an unhelpful abbreviation for Official-Sensitive (Personal). (Unhelpful as it isn’t clear that’s what it means, as you’ve found out :P)

HMG: “Having 4 classifications is too complicated and people keep over-classifying, so we’ll get rid of RESTRICTED and simplify”.

Also HMG: “Presenting OFFICIAL, now with a new range of add-ons that will make your eyes bleed!”

It certainly didn’t simplify or reduce the number of classifications, but replacing CONFIDENTIAL (which had to be handled on SECRET systems) with OFFICIAL-SENSITIVE plus caveats has definitely been an improvement.

Completely forgot about the demise of CONFIDENTIAL.

That was an easy win. No one ever seemed to get that right.

Nah, TS + lots of caveats!

QQ: We have a locking filing cabinet at work in which we keep everything valuable, but the unlocking mechanism has just stopped working today.

The lock locks by pushing the button/locking mechanism in and releases with a key turn.

We’re turning the key, but nothing internally is engaging.

Given how common these types of locks are in RAF world, I was wondering if anyone had any experience of breaking into these?

Always start off with WD40 & wait a couple of hrs… :crossed_fingers:

Usually just wedge the top off and it will disengage the lock.

Second what @bob1 says
That or try tipping it back, sometimes you can push the locking bar up from the bottom.

Thankfully managed to get in. Did need to bend the bar, but only because we didn’t have anything long, thin and solid enough to pry the locking bar upwards.

Can’t close it now though until we fix the mechanism.

Where would I look for details on what the Blue and Bronze aviation training courses cover?

I looked on Training Hub, and there’s nothing.
I looked for an ACTO, and there isn’t one.

Best I can think of is ACTO 32

Edit, tucked away on SharePoint I’ve found this ATP Delivery Guide

Edit 2, and this powerpoint

Are those current?

ACTO 32 still lists bronze wings as GS with ghosted solo.

That slide looks like the old PTT syllabus? Although that maybe is still current?
We’ve cadets that have been awarded bronze wings with only a synthetic element though

I’ve no idea. the whole syllabus is a mess.

That, I think, is the route now - not specified anywhere that I can find, only going on soshial meeja posts relating to Astra Ground Schools.
