The ones that come to mind are music (if you play a qualifying instrument you can get up to Silver based on the music exams or a teacher reference I think), and Silver Cyber (assuming you have Bronze).
You could also earn DofE badges outside of cadets and be awarded RAFAC ‘civilian’ wings, if you solo in either a non-service aircraft or glider.
Another quick question, my mates shoes have deep creases in the toe cap and beeswax isn’t an option. Any suggestions?
Thanks
Once the leather in the toecap is creased. It’s pretty much game over for those shoes.
This.
This is why i recommend service issue DMS shoes, its doesnt happen to them
Vought V-173
Well done, I see you really Vought about that one.
I no this is not an urgent question, but why is only one NCO selected to do banner at parades every single time and also be ic for drill comp? This doesn’t really seem fair to me.
Maybe they are the best (& possibly linked to availability)?
From my time the banner and drill ic were usually two different people. As to why NCO then you have the weigh up of being a reward, responsibility and ability of NCOs Vs cadets. It may not seem fair right now but when you only have a certain amount of time with the cadets then you have to make decisions not everyone will be happy with
There are many others the same rank and same level of experience
Then this is a local issue for you to bring up with staff! I’d recommend not being accusatory but maybe framing it as you’d like to have a go at these things?
Define many - are they all capable of controlling / holding the banner as per the required standards? Unless you have an overly large sqn, there won’t be that many NCOs / SNCOs who would fit the frame.
Same for drill competitions - who is the most confident / has the best knowledge / best chance of winning?
Ideas on a post it please (needed before the weekend) but any good group think ideas for things for a toddler to do in London? Want to take him on the DLR to help fuel the train obsession but otherwise stuck (and the wife has already vetoed the transport museum)
If you’re after something somewhat train related, The Postal Museum is supposed to be very good.
London monument (to the fire of London) might be a good one. Great views of London (personally better than the eye) & pretty cheap for a London attraction (£6 adults, under 5s free) Just lots of stairs but a lot of history without being a tourist trap.
https://www.themonument.org.uk/
it’s next to the tube station & it’s short enough visit that you can then move onto the next event.
Natural History Museum, dinosaurs etc, (its free) or sneak said toddler to ;
RAF Museum?
Imperial War Museum, Churchill War Rooms.
There is the Aquarium down by Westminster Bridge
Or theTransport Museum if you want to fuel that obsession further.
