Queens Jubilee Medal - are there still people waiting?

So nothing for us from 6FTS even though we were given a timeline of 4-6 weeks and that was back in April

It’s a complete shambles. The fact that HQ only approached the medal office because Gp Capt North chased them after two years…absolute joke.

There’s been a lot of pressure around our Wing for a long long time now and the lack of integrity around this whole sorry mess is awful approx 50 % of ours were missed due to the incompetence of full time staff.
Incredible incompetence

Time and time again.

If I were this incompetent at work I would have been sacked.

It is not complicated. The volunteers who qualify need a medal. End of story. But clearly not…

I’m going to leave it a week or so and then chase my CoC again.

There’s an update in the weekly brief on this.

There is an update in this week’s weekly brief.

Oh, snap.

Can you post a copy of the brief?

Abridged version:

We’ve submitted.
Not our fault MODMO is understaffed.
Not our fault MODMO keep putting different criteria.

Maybe soon you’ll be able to put ribbons on your jackets!

The full unabridged version:

  1. Coronation and Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Medals update

We know there are questions about who is eligible for the Coronation Medal and when it will be issued, especially with regard to cadets who helped at the Coronation Service in Westminster Abbey, and also Tranche 2 of the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Medal (QPJM).

HQ RAFAC submitted the list of eligible uniformed Cadet Force Adult Volunteers (CFAVs) to the MOD Medal Office (MODMO) by the September 2023 deadline. For those involved in Operation GOLDEN ORB, the Tasking Authority for the event submitted the lists, not HQ RAFAC. So far, no medals have been received for either group. The MODMO is currently short-staffed and busy with other new medals, but we have asked the MODMO to confirm the names submitted for Operation GOLDEN ORB, and provide timelines for issuing medals to both groups.

Regarding Tranche 2 of the QPJM, this has been more challenging than expected. Gathering old personal data, and / or evidence from external agencies (for aggregated service applications), has been difficult. Following Tranche 1, MODMO issued new guidance for Tranche 2, which needed to be followed. Additionally, the short notice deadline for the Coronation Medal further delayed the QPJM work. Another MOD-wide review of the QPJM eligibility criteria has recently been completed: we now have the updated guidance notes and hope to distribute the validated Tranche 2 lists to Regional HQs (or equivalent) soon, thereby allowing individuals to re-ribbon their tunics and purchase miniature medals.

So to conclude - if they’d done the work properly the first time then we wouldn’t have be in the mess we are.

I wonder what the criteria is for working in the Medal Office is?? But at least we have some movement it would appear finally……

No mention of Tranche 2 for KCM.

I have a colleague who interviewed for a job at the moDMO last year. She has never seen a more disorganised working environment in the last 30 years.

Never mind MODMO issuing new guidance for T2, a good chunk of us waiting for T2 are only waiting because of the incompetence of permanent staff submitting T1

We shouldn’t have to ask for an update, these should be forthcoming from HQAC, even if it is, you’re not forgotten, we’re still working on it.

No mention of the cadets who were invited down to lead the public procession up the Mall to Buckingham Palace!

Were they part of Op Golden Orb?

If so - tasking authority will deal with it but if the tasking authority deemed they weren’t part of it then they won’t get one.

You would have thought so given their positioning and role in leading the public procession up the Mall.
I can’t imagine that would have been a spur of the moment decision by the organisers.

Besides, why else would the escorting staff tell them they would be getting a coronation medal on the day?

Clearing through some emails and found the one regarding QPJM medal. A friend contacted the medal office earlier this year and sent me their reply. I also have an email from my previous Wing saying T2 names were confirmed with HQAC in August 2023 and medals to follow in due course…

I’ve also found one for CM saying medals no earlier than Q1 of 2024.

The Sea Cadets who were standing next to the Air Cadets and walked down the Mall with them have received theirs, so the assumption is the Air and Army cadets present are on the list. In fact, they were told by the SCC ceremonial officer that they’re eligible and on the list, but we’ll see!

Anyone else find it a bit suspicious how one week after people kick off on VoV and social media, HQAC is available to produce a list of names of who will be getting their coronation medal within a fortnight!

Funny how asking a few questions and apply a small amount of pressure can trigger some change.

Really happy to see there is a decent list of cadets that have indeed been put forward, with the potential for medals within a few weeks!
