Promotion Matrix

I can see an awful lot of wing staff Sqn ldrs all disappearing… oh no… what a shame…

Also, If this happens and VA is no longer associated with rank.
Perhaps time to reorg the rank structure completly.

The aspiration ever since the minimum was brought in is that this will be raised to AFA as soon as the capability exists to deliver sufficient courses. (Which is why so many Wings are really pushing to increase their Instructor numbers for FA).

We seem to have the opposite problem. Got courses offered but staff not taking them up! The WFAO is looking at cancelling the next AFA he’s organised because of only having 1 applicant. And yet there are still a lot of staff in the wing with no FA at all. Not even HS.

Anyway, topic?

The VA part of that suggestion has logic to it, but the idea of making all ranks time served utterly defeats the object of having a rank structure at all.
Rank has to be based on responsibility and skills for it to have any meaning.

Key word there.

And until acto 8 is updated. The minimum remains HS.

Hmmmmm.
Difficult one… spend 16 hours re learning stuff that hasnt changed in 20 years… or have a weekend for something… anything else.

Well why not offer out to 18+ Cdts? Given then something that may entice them to stay when they hit 20 :man_shrugging:t2:

I can’t disagree with that I guess :man_shrugging:

It has been! I think in non-covid times it’s offered to nearby wings too, but as it’s non residential that doesn’t work so great.

this is my bug bare with first aid

i learnt CPR as a Scout, several times repeated as a Cadet and a handful more as a CFAV with FA ticket.

i need it to keep my AT ticket valid but in reality cannot tell you the last time i had to deal with a FS incident that was more extreme than rinsing under some water and applying a sticking plaster.
Like much of the admin in the RAFAC i do what is required when it is required…if i didn’t need the FA ticket for AT then i would happily live with HS and accept i need to be taught CPR again!

It’s one weekend every three years. Hardly that onerous.

But anyway, topic?

True.
If that’s the only ticket you hold.

agreed - but the course doesn’t change as the material doesn’t.

it isn’t onerous but it is a tick box exercise

Sorry to reopen an old thread. I was just wondering what the average length of time is for HQAC to officially confirm rank post matrix completion? Heard staff shortages at the head shed are causing some delays at present.

My region have had an email today that it’s all on hold, and has been since earlier this year, pending a review of the process. I wouldn’t hold your breath it being sorted anytime soon.

How do you get promoted then?

At the moment, as a CFAV SNCO, you can’t.

This is not a recording

I’ve heard the same as Juno.

This was asked about on VoV and RC North wasn’t aware of any pause on promotions during the review.

If there is a pause they need to actually communicate that.
