Why are you going to have to close?
None of the tiers means youth groups close

Sorry… are you meaning Christmas?
How long do you normally close for!
No, not being dictated to close from above, but having to close due to lack of staff being able to commit or to cadets/parents getting worried when we go to Tier 3 or what ever that changes to in the future.
Just looking at this thread, and from speaking to other people, there is clearly a lot of anxiety around what to do.
I fully agree with this anxiety too. For some it might mean they end up having to take 2 weeks of work to isolate. For some of those that might be SSP for 2 weeks that they can’t afford. It might also increase the worries of seeing other family after mixing with a bunch of young people from various school.
People are nervous, and that’s okay! I just think it might be more people than initially expected that are worried.
Definitely.
I think the government messaging has been so strong that more people are worried (if this is good or bad depends on your outlook).
We have people across the spectrum at work - to start with everyone was relaxed, but we have a few people that have a touch of covid hysteria back from furlough now, and since they have come back to work they put everyone else on edge with the constant misery.
It’s all outlook. I’m happy to be at work and I’ll be happy to get stuck in at cadets when we open… but with so many staff in vulnerable categories I feel a lot might be left down to me to get on with… And then burnout is a very real issue.
There’s plenty already on that knife edge. Virtual Squadrons on top of life has not been easy.
Exactly…
We binned it off ages ago just couldn’t sustain it.
Limited technological capability made it the same people organising and running
Large part of me does think we would have been better off just stopping fully for 9 months.
No VPNs no restart bs.
Then 1st jan 21 picking it up.
But then again. If we stopped all the perms would have had to either be let go or made to temp transfer.
I rekon that’s the only reason we were encouraged to do VPNs.
Keep the perms employed.
VPNs do seem to have fallen off a cliff, or at least people talking about them.
We’ve not run many as there wasn’t the interest or desire from the Cadet and little availability or willingness from the staff
but we were invited to one every other week on average and the Wing had a few too but seems to have all dried up.
i guess CFAVs and Cadets alike are bored of the format. with the “not before 31st August” statement in place we all hoped September would be our return…but as we know that has come and gone, demoralisation has crept in more so than it had before.
there is only so much classification training or quizzes we can all take i guess.
@james_elliott is there any appetite to repeat the report you ran ~6 months ago on the uptake of VPNs across the Corps?
have the numbers nosed dived?
Bet the hierarchy doesnt want that bad news!
We’ve kept it up to an extent but it has been the same staff over and over and I’m starting to get bored of it. After a whole day on teams with work, logging into Teams to run a VPN which less than five cadets (out of 90) turn up for is soul destroying.
I suggested to my OC last night that we knock it on the head of the current numbers continue.
We haven’t ran any in months. Cadets don’t want it so what’s the point in doing it? We’ve spent the time saved planning activities (such as leadership, and NCO training) for the future so we have some in reserve.
Agree that the organisation would have suffered less if there hadn’t been such pressure on people to deliver stuff early.
The setting of the arbitary September date was also a mistake.
Jan 21 won’t see much change from now, I can’t see us being back to anything meaningful beyond parade nights and daytime activities until after Easter 21 and even then it will be interesting to see how many cadets actually continue in the organisation.
I wish we could knock it on the head, but we have between 10 and 20 younger cadets regularly joining for them (out of 40) which by all accounts is an excellent result - but never the older cadets so not a huge amount of support - so down to the same one or two staff.
I wish the youngsters would stop turning up so we could bin them off! We’ve done everything we usefully can, so thinking of things to do gets harder and harder.
Agreed.
Wish I could like more than once just for this.
Question: How do I add the climatic injuries DVD training to SMS again?
Just seen this. I know some of you were wondering about recruitment. Good to see squadrons trying at least!
Found out how to do it for myself, but is there a way to bulk add it for the cadets I trained?
If you have an event for the training then you can do it via the event. just select all the cadets that passed and click bulk update.
