Makes you wonder what’s the point…but will push on as always
Hopefully it was teething problems and next time people will show up
Sorry to hear that.
It’s a shame after all the work done by staff to get the doors open once more.
That’s the biggest issue we face generally - and certainly over the past 6 months.
Reality bites.
The problem as I suggested is … what to cadets come back to? The social aspect has been more than covered by SM. So something needs to be on offer, that makes the risk of coming to a shed attractive, especially as we are now effectively unable to do things outside in the evenings.
There is the potential for being forced to self-isolate. My wife spoke to some friends in the village and their granddaughter is having to self-isolate due to someone at her dance class testing positive. So now their son or daughter in law are off work, as she can’t go to school, hoping she stays symptom free. I’m not keen on the idea of a phone call to work, because I’ve done something unnecessary. If I’m not happy as the OC should I be asking staff (and cadets to that matter) to do something I’m not happy doing?
However low the risk, this sort of thing is what we will be up against.
Until we are able to meet without the notion of a risk of your personal life being turned upside down, we shouldn’t even be considering it. If HQAC had a spine, this is what would be happening. The situation is far too fluid, rules say it’s OK one day, not OK the next. You go to work (if you can) or school as it’s expected, everything else, not really.
I’ve been looking at local school websites, one of our schools has got Yr10 & 11 doing after school lessons, Saturdays and several days during their 2 week ½ term. The others year 11 after school and Saturday lessons. I also imagine they are all being overloaded with homework to gap fill.
Talk to them and you’ll very quickly find out it hasn’t.
Though it’s no surprise you’re out of touch.
I understood that under the NYA rules, that activities and groups involving youths were exempt at all tiers, due to the benefits to their mental health of getting out of the house at last?
Whether they’re legally allowed to open isn’t really the question here though is it?
It’s whether someone in the chain has decided that it isn’t worth the risk - I think I’d agree with them…
This is correct.
Given the Comdt has already said:
Judgement is that increase to NYA Red is unlikely, and if it does happen it would be narrowly applied. In such circumstances the expectation is regardless of venue size only one bubble will be permitted with only 10 young people.
and also
The central premise from government is that non-participation in youth activities causes more harm than the risk posed by COVID-19 to young people.
That decision has been made already by the sounds of it, and we can crack on if it goes to very high locally. I don’t think the push back will be from up the chain, it’ll be from us on the ground not wanting to get stuck in when the risk goes up.
But, this is once again looking like a situation that could change rapidly, so who knows.
Yeah, that’s what I mean.
The key part of the sentence is ‘to young people’. If staff are reluctant, either because of their own vulnerability or someone close to them, then activities aren’t possible.
I’m in the reluctant category unfortunately. My job normally entails getting out and about inspecting property and businesses, but due to health grounds work has me desk bound at present, so I just cant justify the risk of mixing with a bunch of schoolkids, no mater the bubble side of things.
It just wouldn’t be fair to my employer.
Similar position - Mrs B_L and myself working from home
No 1 Son on Uni placement year - luckily still happening but he is doing it from his bedroom - not even seen the office he is supposed to be in
B_L Minor at Uni so we don’t even know if we will see him at Christmas at the moment
…so current Mrs Biggles_Lovechild has no intention of letting me spend my evenings in a damp hut with doors and windows open with 15 kids from 7 different schools etc to deliver a very limited program
I’ll put money on it happening. If he wants to come home.
Tom, Dick and Harry underway as we speak
A lot of people seem to be finding excuses NOT to reopen…
We dont need to worry about HQAC killing the Corps off, we will do it ourselves.
A little harsh and unfair I feel…
We all have our differing personal commitments ,priorities and circumstances - it is not one size fits all
Personally, I would love to be back asap, but there is more to consider than my direct perspective - a much longer list than that which I have previously shared, believe me.
It’s not just you.
My perception on here is that an increasing number dont want to re open.
The longer until units reopen, statistically the lower the chance they will. Or will with long term success.
I wonder what knowledge of reality wings, region and HQAC have of the situation people are facing on the ground and the reality of how many Sqns are now bread line.
It is of course essential and remains paramount that people only return if they feel able to do safely.
Difficulty is squaring the circle between staff being unable to return and salvaging what’s left.
There’s also an argument to be said that opening half-arsed now, knowing full well I’ll have to close in 6 weeks time again, might be worse than just waiting.
