Preparing to Return to F2F Activity... Again/Still

You could always see RFCA doing a shimmy on this.

I’ll be stuffed if I’m doing their job for them. Imagine you’d been waiting for them to do something that was well within capacity and skill and did it yourself, a self build or similar, they’d be all over you like measles and others jumping up and down on your nads.

It says RFCA have got to do this and then we are supplied with the necessary bits afterwards. So that’s what’s going to happen.

Updated my currency on the Scorpian AR / L144 & L98 yesterday.

Now planning to get cadets shooting next month.

LASER are well ahead of the game, they had a LR L98 shoot this weekend and last week had the “socially distant” white water rafting

We’re still not allowed to do anything full stop.

At least RC SNI’s latest email acknowledged it was a RAFAC decision not government restrictions… (In Scotland, at least)

Was good to see people on the ranges this weekend. It can be done!

I’m in W&W and am under the impression it is a government issue here.

EDIT: Which is strange because the SCC here have been out in their boats…

I certainly feel for the guys in SNI / W&W hopefully you’ll get the green light.

We are moving incredibly slowly in my wing, yesterday was a SATT day so yet to see anything training related take place or be in planning yet :slightly_frowning_face:

But have not got our wing AT container in place.

How do you white water raft socially distanced out of interest?

ARC W&W sent something out last week which says outdoor activity in Wales is now allowed. Went to Wgs sometime last week I think.

I’m not sure either but it’s all here on FB - https://www.facebook.com/1453320798223501/posts/2809950789227155/?extid=TndP9gg5HHKRpOjI&d=n

I don’t think there is even 1m between some of them and there is no additional protection for 1m+

Ah, not filtered down to us yet.

Judging by these photos the answer is ‘you dont’.
Seems like some parts of the country (air cadet wise) are just going back to business as usual…

At least have the sense not to post photos on FB etc showing how you are just ignoring the rules.

Will end up with the whole corps being stood down again.

There isnt an L98 shoot even in the planning in my wing… let alone a cogent WHT strategy. :man_facepalming:

I’m of the unpopular opinion that we should just be getting on with, whilst shielding the vulnerable…

(I won’t go into the nuances of the argument, I’m aware it’s a contentious issue!)

So personally glad to see cadets getting back to it!

But. I’m very aware that not all share my view and that isn’t the current course of action, and so would say we should be following all the rules there are…

And, despite my likely unpopular opinion will echo the above, nobody should be ignoring any rules.

And although I might disagree this is why we should do as we’re told!

Our wing getting staff back to shooting at the end of the month, some have started to have building checks… but no activities happening here yet.

Everyone keeps saying October, but I think that might be optimistic unless all of a sudden stuff starts to move quickly…

I’ve been around long enough to know that nothing in the Corps happens “all of a sudden” or “moves quickly”…

Nice photos though, lots of smiles from the cadets and staff!

I’ve seen a couple of squadron activities posted on Instagram.

One squadron was doing bushcraft and there’s literally a video of two staff members blowing tinder to get a fire going with <.5m between them. They’re basically blowing air at each others faces. And a second video eating bugs where there about 5-6 people within 2m of eachother easily.

Seen another video from a separate squadron where the cadets are using an interactive thing at the RAF museum and there are cadets standing close enough that they are touching. Also as it’s interactive they’re touching the same screen that multiple people are all touching at the same time.

And I’m here not even allowed to take my cadets on a walk in the woods. GMG much.

I would like to see the RA for a recent white water rafting activity on SM which in my experience requires lots of shouting and very close team working

I saw that too, multiple cadets all within 2m of each other. Don’t get me wrong I’m slightly verging onto the same opinion as @anon9987823, but the rules we’ve been given are what we’ve got to follow, and I’ve seen multiple examples of that not happening.

Wouldn’t the safety supervisor need to get pretty close to check the weapon’s safe?

This is covered in the F2F Activity Guidance document, slight change of process for NSPs.

That’s not a Covid issue for you though right  I’m mid planning a Staff Currency Session for 10 qualified persons (K/SR/LR/WI/SAAI) on the L98/L144. Which will be followed by 3 consecutive weekends of L144 refreshers and firing for cadets, max of 10 per day.

I tend to lean this way, with practical changes to activity, such as wearing a mask when I go shopping and respecting personal space. I’m not just thinking in RAFAC terms but nationally, I’m genuinely concerned that in 10 years time when kids what highlights of Liverpool winning the champions league will wonder what all those people were doing there!!

100% this and we shouldn’t be over critical, but some consistency would be nice so that all cadets and staff can get on with it.

Would be interested to see how that worked out. Personally never seen a range where a safety supervisor hasn’t had to help a cadet in some way.

Well if it’s a Long Range they will already be some way through the CLF and would therefore be expected to be somewhat proficient.
