Preparing to Return to F2F Activity... Again/Still

You may as well rant about how they can’t make us polish shoes or wear ties; you’d be just as right about requiring those being forbidden.

This they do.

But isolate they dont.

Given staffing levels and those staff with experience, knowledge and qualifications, it’s the young people who suffer. You see this when people leave for any number of reasons. We’ve lost a few people in the last few months, who won’t be replaced easily if at all.
I know a lot of people who have left and not missed it one little bit, they may lose a hobby etc, but discover a world of activities and pursue personal interests to more than fill their time. They stay in contact with their mates from the Corps.
As for ‘wreck’ I have to admit I didn’t miss parade nights, from day one of the lockdown and didn’t miss the weekends and other things, so I’d survive. After over 30 years of constantly doing things in a cycle, it was a nice break. VPNs were a bind, but we shared them and now we’re back it’s almost like we never stopped last March

Update from the Commandant posted as a link in an Announcement

All seems sensible, would be good to have a similar letter for parents

From speaking to our cadets the RAFAC is the only setting requiring them to wear masks still.

Right or wrong, this is the reality - and it is off putting to an awful lot of staff and cadets…

I wonder how much longer the RAFAC thinks it can do this for? As the reality is that mask wearing will just end up not being enforced - we’ve all seen the pictures of CAC at Cosford with unmasked cadets inside - all of the cadets see this on social media and then ask why they have to wear them on squadron. It’s a fair question - one that I don’t have the answer for other than “it’s the rules… (for us but not that event for some reason)”.

Covid has taken a toll, the fuel situation will see some squadrons closing for a few parade nights - there are lots of things out of our control that are making things hard enough as it is. So it would be great if the CoC could save me a fight with my cadets who I ultimately agree with over face masks…

It’s demoralising… It’s pointless… It’s damaging.

The CoC need to get their backsides onto a squadron to see the reality.

Now now.
When I said this when the law changed I got shot down.

Brace yourself.

Oh wait. It wont happen, as peoples view point has finally caught up.

It’s also a huge complication… As we start to attend off squadron events in inside spaces, where there is no mask wearing enforced, yet we are saying to cadets you have to wear a mask at this event, but if you attend as just Joe Public you wouldn’t need to…

And rightly the question is asked as why - and what reason do we have?

The Army Cadets are doing ok - so it isn’t even consistent across the cadet forces.

It comes back to attitudes to risk - and letting people manage their own personal risk assessments… This risk averse attitude has stifled flying, fieldcraft, sports - now it is stifling the only remaining thing that OC’s have any sort of control over; the squadron parade night.

One question starting to come up is when in shared building particularly with ACF & RFCA.

The air cadets has a different set of regs to the other cadets using the exact same building, rooms & facilities.

What would the ATC actions be should the ACF go full zero restrictions and remove all of our carefully marked & measured tape, chairs signs etc?

You’ll be required to put it all back down at the start of every parade night.
I jest…I hope

It the “you must have the windows open in the minibus” that gets me. It’s almost winter, so do we just sit there getting hypothermia?!

Or wasting fuel out the window due the extra drag.

Have you not had to cut holes in the floor to run Flintstones style yet?

Already had similar occurrences. We put all our RAFAC signs up, ACF promptly took them all down.

What mingle with the hoi poloi and see how ir really is?
If they did they wouldn’t go to average sqn in backside of nowhere on spec. It would arranged and 3 line whip expected on cadets and staff.

Just leave it all up to demonstrate just how far WE are from rest of society.

Yeah. Got loads.
Mercifully I had filled my car up last wednesday and that’s me good for 2 weeks.

Couple of questions that I think I already know the answer to, but I may have missed something.

I believe the current rules say masks must be worn indoors still.

Does this only apply whilst at the squadron/unit?
If not, where does it apply?
Is it only for activities where it’s only cadets involved?
If you go somewhere not cadet-y, is it still required? (Museum, awards events etc etc)
Does the rule apply to non RAFAC personnel attending indoor RAFAC events, or is it personal choice for them?

As said, think I know the answers too these, but basically every post I’m seeing on SM is the opposite of what I understand the rules to be.
