HQAC have an interminable twitchy sphincter and seem to have gone ultra cautious when there has been no need and the real world has been getting on with things.
We’ve been doing Saturday’s just so we can be outside as the idea of poncing around inside with masks etc which no one else seems to be doing makes no sense. The cadets are not stupid and have commented on the fact that we seem to be the only people insisting on set rules. Even before the schools broke up the cadets said their schools weren’t enforcing rules as they were.
Remembrance Sunday will soon be upon us - do we think we’ll get any updated guidance as at the moment, guidance doc states “Representative presence but no marching”. Not helpful!
They won’t do anything until the night before, when they realise the army cadets and sea cadets will both be on parade and marching.
Then, there will be a panic release pushed out on Facebook to say that we can take part!
You can still take part, the most important thing is Act of Remembrance. Marching is an aside.
Back to work this week and the Head said we are working to the DfE guidelines. So it’s back to a normal school day. Why can’t we as an organisation operate to these, because the vast majority of cadets will be working in accordance with these and be fully onboard.
Interestingly the Head said they are not an position to insist that people wear masks.
I was in London Thursday and Friday this week. I was surprised to see that less than 50% of people were wearing face coverings on public transport, despite there being signs to say it was mandatory.
Now people are “urged” to wear masks on public transport and similar settings it is no longer mandatory, regardless of the signage.
Not necessarily the case, the TfL bylaws for example lake obeying station safety signs mandatory, punishable by upto a £1000 fine, I would expect that most Public Transport would be the same.
NYA has gone to Green this morning:
Masks advised…
Social distancing advised…
We will never return to how it was will we.
I’m sure we will get there in due course.
It also states, if there is a positive case, anyone present is suspended for 14 days, and must isolate for 10. It is unclear whether this has just stayed in from the previous version?
Isn’t that the correct rule for the unvaccinated? Which the kids most likely will be.
Only if they are over 18, U18s are exempt from isolation - if a close contact - since Aug 16 (England, not sure of exact rules for the other nations)
If the rumours of the government vaccinating 12 to 15 year olds are true, it’ll be free reign once a threshold is passed
Depending on the levels of take up and getting over that imaginary line.
We’re finding consent and free will to chose (or not!) an issue with our 16/17/18 year olds. There’s certainly a high number of conspiracy theorists and antivaxers making their voices known - more so than the older age groups.
For 12-15 year olds there are already rumours of an uprising of antivaxer parents. Thankfully, most children in that age band have the trumpcard of Gillick competence where they can chose to have a jab irrespective of their parental wishes (if deemed competent)… BUT rebelling against your parents wishes? That’ll take some guts!!!
Not got time to read the details yet, have they said anything about local authorities designated as needing special support (or whatever it’s been called) due to higher cases?
Not that I could see when I read through earlier today, but it wasn’t in the previous draft.
I suppose it could be an extension of the following the devolved nations’ guidance. I would be wary of running a large event in an area under enhanced support. But that is just a personal view.
There was one of those on Radio 4 this morning. But she was debating the issue with a very eloquent 14 year old young woman who I think won the bout on points.
Or lots more lockdown and death to convince them.
