Preparing to Return to F2F Activity... Again/Still

I’ve got a full weekend of cadet activity;

Staff LFMT - approved in SMS directly by the RC with no SMS comments from the SPO
Low Key Community Engagement - Self Approved as Lower RTL following a conversation with my WEXO

I think that would depend on the RC.
As the DDH they have the say over Sqns opening… That’s how some activities that JoeBloggs mentions were permitted to go ahead despite the “guidance”. The RC considered the guidance, looked at the proposed controls and then decided that the risk was being suitably managed for him, and the activity was authorised.

Is there a wider agenda to let run sqns down and close them? Closing / amalgamating sqns has been suggested several times and these last 18 months or so, will give them an excuse to actually do it. By prevaricating on re-opening cadets are drifting away, who will be the ones we are looking to help us re-build. But then will the cadets want this additional pressure, which they didn’t (like any of us) sign up for? A big concern is we are not being given the where withal to make the current cadets think it’s worth hanging around and to make us look attractive in any advertising. These need to be real and happening now, not promissory for next year or further along. This drop will include staff who are much harder to replace.

Last year the figures for community cadets (only cadets) was c32000, the RAF fully trained c.29600. Add in CCF and CFAV the “air cadets” are substantially larger than the parent organisation. Is this sustainable or desirable, given the demands it creates?

Frankly the number game we are drawn into has to binned and allow squadrons to operate at their level for 3-4 years after this. Well unless there is a broader agenda.

How much longer can this totally risk averse ethic really continue? If schools had continued like we have, the nation would have been a basket case. Let’s not forget cadets go to school and go around reasonably normally. Social distancing what’s that? Then come to ‘cadets’ and everything is off the scale and limited. I struggle with the level of restriction, we still have as it’s not been my experience outside, which is why we have only been doing Saturdays so we can be outside most of the time.

Did you have uploaded RSD/RASP which was signed as acceptable by the SPO uploaded to the app?

Nope, SPO is in attendance and will sign them there.

The RSDs are uploaded though.

HQAC…Let’s release a guidance note that quotes transmission rates are on an upward trend, on the same day that has seen the 7th consecutive daily fall in reported cases.

The secret of comedy is timing!

It seems that some wings are doing their own thing. A friend in a wing up north received this last week:

Sqn Cdrs may make individual judgments on retaining face coverings, social distancing and bubble sizes. These need to be based on some practical basis such as staff protecting vulnerable relatives etc, Parents may challenge such decisions, but I will support such approaches if you can give me a valid reason for them.

That’s got to be a joke or wind up.

Or a DDH with some guts.

The same way that when the No8 ran out of authorisation some Regions handed them back and others continued using them.

Kermit said Wing…

But yes guys and balls indeed if a ddh has allowed this.
Wish it were mine!

Sadly lacking in the organisation!

Okay, that makes sense then. There have been some difference of opinions around the various regions on SMS authorisation and required documentation.

Having read the guidance note, the question that is screaming to be answered is, “what happens next?”

Yes, we carry on with masks, bubbles and social distancing, but for how long?

Box 1 details the RAFAC roadmap, but it doesn’t go beyond step 4, which is where we are currently at.

When is the status quo going to be reviewed? What tests will have to be met before RAFAC relax the current guidance?

Please give us a light at the end of the tunnel!

Next government guidance is the 16th August (according to BBC website), so if that goes ahead I would guess we would update again also.

NYA will be releasing an update in September, so if nothing else that should prompt a review of the guidance.

So with a change of quarantine rules in the coming week for those of us double dipped…

Will the RAFAC take this as an opportunity to bring us in line with the other cadet forces and the rest of the country, or will we have to wait?

Not social media shaming at all. But (anything said before “but” or “however” doesn’t count) lots of posts recently where our (not govt) rules have gone out the window…

Can we end the discrepancy this week?

We’ll see….

Already changed in Wales and Scotland.

Tbh I don’t even know what the specific rules are anymore, just working the way we have done for a while.

This.

Aside from asking cadets to wear masks inside the building (though we’re lucky to be on an Army Reserve compound so have lots of secure outdoor space) that’s basically the limit to what we’re imposing.

And we had both the WingCo and WWO down recently, neither of whom said a word. So we’re cracking on as is.

Same here - we had a visit and all fine. Happy to see cadets having a good time (for a change!)…

HQAC need to just bring us in line with the law.
It’s not only annoying and confusing for some. But cadets wonder why we have all this BS when anyone can now alk around a shop, school or club without distancing or a mask.

Rediculous and unenforceable.
