Preparing to Return to F2F Activity... Again/Still

Firstly - only??

i would describe all RAFAC involvement in Air Shows as “low key” it is a bit of traffic management and “crowd control”
no Squadron is providing Air Traffic Control cover, first aid cover or displaying

Secondly - that is a very specific event with nearly all of which I know of are being cancelled…even airfield fly ins are being cancelled i don’t get why they picked something we’re unlikely to be able to attend and then indicate to what level we can attend.

what is the point in that?
200 personnel turning up to a parade to stand around…1m+ distancing of course!

I’ve said it before and I will say it again.

HQAC can shove this sort of mismanaged omnishambles clusterfudge right up their rear end.

When even the more placid members of this forum are irate it just shows how little the top care for us.

NOW we get an all points email telling us they can find the money for civ com eDBS… why not for staff.

PATHETIC.

Absolutely pathetic to the ultimate degree.

The ACF, SCC and even the scouts must be laughing themselves all the way to the bank, as members roll in for them, activities return to normal and recruiting can happen at max pace.

Meanwhile in the incontinent shambles which is RAFAC world… we cant do nowt, still.

Arghhhhhhhh :man_facepalming::man_facepalming::man_facepalming::man_facepalming:

Looks like we’ll have to cancel our recruitment night. Well done HQAC!

(searches for threads on transferring to ACF)

You can do recruitment nights. That is something they specifically allow. Not sure how they expect you to do it though.

I get the indignation but not the surprise - it was ever thus…

I have gone from just under 50 on the books to 18 - of them 3 I suspect will disappear.
Of the 15 I have had turning up the best night was 12 but normally around 8 or 9
Now we are in holiday period my last 3 parades have been 1, 2, 3

I have around 30 on a waiting list to join and am not even considering it until we get back to normal as there is nothing I can do with them

It is FUBAR, but then it is also SNAFU as we try to recover

I said earlier Sep would be my guess but tbh would not be surprised if it went beyond that

Only thing we have on our side is time - we all go through cyclical stages on a Sqn - it is just that we will all be in the same boat as a Corps this time. Once we get a new generation in normal times we will move on - they don’t know any better - it is just us ‘in my day’ types that will suffer

Trying to get my glass towards half full - but it is true, looks very empty at the moment

Your experience is similar to mine by the sounds of it.

Some of our older ones have left and some are grumbling, part of that is usual teenager stuff of course.

But we have taken in new ones and they are enjoying what we have to offer, they have no knowledge of pre Covid activities so any easing up is all a plus for them.

Our main challenge is a lack of space, it’s ok now when we can be outside, come the autumn if we still have 1m+ we will have to limit the Cadet numbers further on each night due to classroom capacity.

So your local town holds a parade, say Remembrance Day, all the other organisations and other cadet forces can march a route. What are we meant to do just turn up, stand for 10 minutes, and then RTU?

Aside from the activities allowed (I’m presuming there is some rationale there, although I can’t see it at the moment), I’m not surprised at the retention of 1m+ and masks. Ultimately the NYA still recommends social distancing and masks in poorly ventilated indoor spaces (which most of our units are). The guidance reflects the NYA guidance in most other ways, including the removal of bubbles/size limits etc.

This also implies distancing outdoor can be scrapped, as per 5.1 (Scot)…

But today I guess it’s back in again then

Not sure what you mean?

Ah, do you mean that in theory the guidance should say 1m+ but ONLY INDOORS. Outdoors is up to you?

I’d be inclined to agree in that case, although the NYA guidance does make mention of situations where prolonged contact with others might take place and so on.

Yeah, exactly.

We have 18 who have registered an interest.
With social distancing, we won’t be able to accommodate them and their parents in the building!

Yes and no.

One of the great things about cadets is being taught how to be a new cadet by an older cadet. A 16 year old NCO being given a flight of newbies to take under their wing and shape.

We’re not going to have those experienced cadets.

This is what’s happening with flying and gliding already.

I was a cadet in the 80s - you could say that about almost all the cadet experience

with the exception maybe of some of the classification training thats-funny

Have a cadet on squadron just last night:

“I wonder if there will be any flying anytime soon? I age out in February and haven’t been to AEF/VGS yet…”

He joined at 13.

And generally speaking we’ve done better than some horror stories on here for flying provision… so I imagine this is becoming pretty standard stuff.

We are being watched.
That’s all I can say…

That and HQAC, as you’re watching. Why dont you listen instead of piously ignoring those with ground level huge experience.

Dont see any gp Capts or above having run an air cadet Sqn…
