Preparing to Return to F2F Activity... Again/Still

It’s now 2 weeks since govt announced what the law would be.
And 1 week since the change.

Now rapidly becoming another farce in the logbook for HQAC.

They really need to grip their poo and get on with this.

Local scout groups are already actively recruiting as they immediately followed NYA guidance… meanwhile I still can only fit 10 in my parade hall at 2m+…

Total joke.

There was a Wales Addendum initially, but I can’t remember where it was stored and haven’t checked to see if it has been updated.

That’s been long superseded and it was incorporated into the main document I believe.

I think you’re right - it didn’t make much sense when I read it anyway.

Yeah, I was joking . . .

We’ve been plotting our attendance figures since the return and the trend is one cadet less every parade night.

It seems like they were initially keen to get back. Yes, we lost about 20 over lockdown, but they were the less keen anyway. However, those that did return now seem to be put off by the different experience offered.

Having spoken to a few that have jacked it in recently, the wearing of masks, bubbles, social distancing and limited activities, seem to be the main reason for the loss of interest.

We need to get back to normal as soon as possible.

I’ve been saying this for the last month.

We at least need to be relaxed to whatever state we can be ASAP.

@tonykeeling dont you want a job? :man_shrugging:

We’ve had exactly this too - our couple of 18+ cadets have said they can’t be bothered with the faff so have left along with a fair few senior cadets. They did so well over VPN but have just got fed up with all the extra rules we have since F2F has resumed.

This has left us with seriously reduced numbers and just a few senior cadets that have been clever enough to realise if they stick things out for now there will be openings in the rank structure above due to others leaving…

Quite a tricky proposition for any kind of open evening at the moment; it just doesn’t look or sound attractive at the moment.

I know so many staff saying they are waiting before running events in their area of expertise until we relax our rules and approval goes back to normal for activities…

Lost 4 NCOs in the past month, all have said they’ve lost interest because “it’s not the same anymore”.

We were already down from 55/60 to low 40s, but really only 20 or so are showing any interest.

Well the guidance is out, and it’s another farce.

1m+ for England, facemasks kept everywhere. No other changes that I can see.Oh, other than you can occupy every seat on a vehicle. Not sure how you can do that and remain 1m away from someone, which means I can’t see how you can still need to stay 1m from people generally.

I still can’t open my building in any meaningful way. Time to consider resigning again I think.

Why are you all surprised? The pandemic isn’t over, and the kids are still just as at risk as before, as they arguably won’t get vaccinated. We’re seeing increased hospitalisations amongst the young, lasting effects are prevalent in younger people.

The organisation would be negligent if they just threw open the doors and it all went Pete Tong down the line. Just because the government is throwing caution to the wind doesn’t give everyone else carte blanche to do the same.

Because the Army and the Navy have realised that the risk to children is negligible, compared to the risk to their mental health and their development. They have, AFAIK, abandoned social distancing.

Masks I’m fine with. LFTs I’m fine with. Hand washing, ventilation and even trying to keep some form of bubbles I’m fine with. But keeping 1m+ means I cannot use any of the rooms in my building meaningfully still. Classrooms holding 3 or 4 each. Main hall holding 12.

There is no point me opening with those numbers. How can it be fine to sit next to someone on a bus, but as soon as I get off I have to move 1m away? Either it is OK to be that close or it isn’t. You can’t have both.

Where?

Where it should be, under key documents on the main Sharepoint site.

Hmm, odd, that’s the first place I looked and nothing was/is showing…
Might be my permissions. I’ll have a tinker.

Pretty much. We only require masks on transport, or in very close proximity, such as cadets practicing recovery position on each other, that kind of thing. They are also supposed to be worn when walking around corridors and then taken off when sat down, but I’ll be surprised if that is followed to the letter. Social distancing is supposed to be maintained were possible, but not at the expense of training.

I never thought I’d say it but a well thought out, reasonable and balanced approach from the Army. Well done. It’s a shame our side of the team can’t take the lead from you (for once I wish they had just copied you!).

As Boris said, if not now, when? If we can only go to 1m+ now, what is it going to take to reduce it further? The government and the NYA aren’t going to say any more on it as they’ve made their position clear.

We’re 1 step behind at all stages of this. What is going to happen when we get to the winter and actually need further restrictions? We’ll go back to bubbles and 2m and masks at all times?

It’s worthy of a VoV question, imo.

Go on then…

We are only really limited by accommodation (though tenting is an option) and we aren’t allowed “large parades”, though no definition of a “large parade” has been given. Compared to Trooping the Colour, all our parades are pretty small.
