Thats not true it isn’t compulsory but can be useful fir some sqns, we did our initial parade night then reverted to normal, but then we only have 15 cadets on the books
I’d push the question to your WExO.
"Ma’am, hope you’re well… Etc, etc.
Wanted to know if you had any details on… X, as seen this on Book o’face and Insta. Are we now permitted to do this, as would like to start planning our summer activities,
Kind regards,
Concerned of ACC."
I did a similar thing during lockdown 1, when cadets in London were at a public event for Armed forces day…
The event was approved by Region… It’s in their court.
But this is nothing unusual. Surely by now everyone has realised that the ‘F2F guidance’ is easily over-ruled by simply suggesting sensible practical controls and asking the RC (as DDH) for approval… They can either say “yes” or “no”.
I think depends on where you are as needs the WEXO to support initially and then the RC
Though, any sensible WExO will surely just think “That sounds like a question for the RC… [Submit to Region]…”
Apparently not in the job description for some…
Tbh if I was the WEXO I’d say no, and refer to the Return to Guide as my reasoning I think.
It depends how the question starts, with an email/call (can we?) or application on sms.
I guess that would depend on precedent as well…
A WExO whose RC has previously approved activities on their own merit might be more likely to defer to their call.
Think we are in the “new normal”. Build up to an easing of restrictions then a few weeks beforehand a new variant pops up and potentially restrictions not as eased as we expected.
Just think we have got the autumn to get through, given last autumn panned out pretty much (although later) as I had suggested last summer. I thought we would be locked down nationally again from 01 Nov as the flu season kicked in.
The key is getting everyone jabbed to give a degree of confidence in terms easing restrictions . Two jabs and unless there is a very virulent strain and you cop for it no more jabs and let our bodies deal with it. We have tetanus boosters if we cut ourselves.
Also everyone coming from overseas has to quarantine for 2 weeks on their entry to the UK at their expense for the foreseeable future, regardless of the country’s RAG state, If they are sailors stay onboard for 2 weeks. That way if a variant does pop up abroad there is no finger pointing that borders weren’t closed quick enough etc. Not entirely fool proof but should stop the majority of problems.
We need political leaders like Burnham and Khan to crack on, stop whining and playing politics and the whole of GB & NI to have one song sheet in terms of especially health and education, and stop the devolved govts playing silly sods. IMO opinion over the last year it hasn’t helped that especially Scotland and Wales have had different things and timings to England, in the border areas it has to have been a bloody nightmare. IIRC in Wrexham or Chester they held an event on the English side but the toilets were in Wales so off limits.
Also by having one set of rules it helps the likes of us, as the rules would cover all of us and not have people in one place doing something others can’t do. Also in our case no exceptions, unless it is published in the national news that 000 Sqn ATC will be taking part in this event or doing something on trial basis to see if and how it works. Why national news? So that people not privvy to the club emails can see and not start a whinge fest that someone is doing something, when the guidance suggests they shouldn’t.
Another Sussex squadron out today doing an activity that the Return to F2F guide says is not allowed. Wondering if RC LaSER or Sussex is just happy to accept the risk now and ignore the return rule book?
More what you would call “guidelines”
I would have thought we’d all been round long enough to know rules and regs are for guidance.
If people are that irked ask the powers that be what’s going on. Frankly I couldn’t give a monkey’s our leaders continually show themselves to be lacking in all areas, so instances like these are no surprise.
Based on yesterdays speah from BoJo
- Children can go on overnight trips in groups of 30 with, for example, the Scouts or Guides, or as part of summer residential schools
Covid rules: What's changing in Wales, Scotland, England and Northern Ireland? - BBC News
So who’s planning a cadet camp?
Hopefully, if overnight groups of 30 are allowed then the bubble limit of 15 will go too. That would make parade nights so much easier!!
NYA update on Thursday with version 6B of guidance to come.
Or at least of raised to 30… that would help 80% of all Sqns out there!
From the 6B guidance:
Overnight and residential experiences are permitted following strict requirements. Until the 21st June only groups of six are permitted (including staff). From 21st June residentials for groups of up to 30 young people (who were under the age of 18 on 31 August 2020) plus carers and workers is permitted. Residentials for youth groups involving over 18’s are permitted for a maximum group of 6 (including staff/carers).
That’s a bit of a ballache as CFAV courses will still be a struggle, but much better for cadets.
More detai;:
- From 21st June, the maximum possible group size is 30 young
people (who were under the age of 18 on 31 August 2020), plus
leaders and carers, or a group of six young people if over 18’s are
involved (which also includes staff/carers).- Only six individuals are permitted to sleep overnight in the same
space (room or tent).- Each group is not permitted to interact with any other groups on site.
- Multiple groups of 30 is possible. However, they must not mix at
any time, including during dining, free time and during activities.- Each group must travel independently of all other groups at all times.
- Each group must remain as an isolated bubble. It is not possible
for other young people to join a residential bubble for the day.- Members of a group should be tested using lateral flow tests every
48-72hrs (similar to schools). Including leaders/staff.- Groups must follow each venue’s COVID Secure requirements,
including social distancing, use of face coverings and hygiene.- Activity staff, catering and welfare staff are permitted to provide
support services but must minimise mixing across groups (where
not otherwise counted as a member of a fixed group subject a
maximum of six members)
Is this talking about groups of 6 or 30… really confused…
Can each 'tent group’s mix with others? As long as there are less than 30 in total?
Any word on parade night bubbles moving to 30?
The NYA recommendation for meetings remains at 15 plus staff (would expect our HQ to follow that).
30 + staff permitted residentials for young people, but only 6 people sharing a tent/block. But 18+ /leaders is limited to 6 in all cases.
