So, the sensible thing to do, as recommended by the experts, and well prefaced by the govt as something which has always been a real possibility if the numbers don’t add up, is to change the plan?
Too sensible for BoJo.

Guidance on residential is out in v4.0 for England.
Groups of 6, inc two staff. No mixing outside of the group, no sharing staff, LFT testing etc.
Still very limiting for overnight DofEs, camps etc. but better than nothing I guess.
Have set it aside to go through during lunch. Please send coffee!
Question.
Assuming (and I appreciate this IS an assumption). We get to 21st June and Boris releases all covid laws and precautions.
How will HQAC and the NYA react… are we going to be bubbled for months after. Despite the fact schools arent. No masks in schools now either.
If the laws revert and:
min distance goes
Masks go
Bubbles go etc etc
Will we revert?
I appreciate that some aspects such as mask.wearing might individually remain.
My experience on Sqn is that it’s already becoming increasingly difficult to enforce 2 meter distancing as in schools it’s basically gone.
Last nights parade was particularly challenging.
If this month it ceases to be required at all… cant see little old RAFAC being able to remain an isolated bastion of nonsense.
I would hope that distance would go, however we are ignoring 1M+ in England (I think for whole org fairness to an extent)
Masks I can see remaining in law past 21 June, but would expect the org to follow the law and not mandate, but permit as personal choice.
Bubbles I’m praying for the end of these ( they are pointless as it is - Mix at School | Cross Sqn Mixing at Wing Activity | Sqn Bubbles | Other Bubbles they may be a part of)
I’m happy for limitations on numbers to remain, but this should be determined by the available space rather than a random number
Yes agreed.
I can cope with mask wearing for as long as needed.
But if we can kill bubbles and go to max capacity as dictated by either 1 or 2 meter that would be good.
Ideally the whole lot goes.
Next best for me would be:
Bubbles go.
2m becomes 1m.
Could revert to almost normal then.
Yep
And words
Almost certainly. We’ve been following the NYA / (insert relevant home nation guidance body) guidance pretty closely throughout so I see no reason why we would suddenly depart from that.
I’m sure we will, but my question would be how quickly will we react?
The law changes on a Monday. Do those parading that Monday night get to go back to ‘the before times’? Will those who parade on Wednesday be ok? Or will it take 3 weeks to percolate through the CoC…
It’s been quite quick all the way through, there will obviously be a few days lag but that has been the NYA being behind the curve mostly.
Agreed. Seems to have been a few days to a week from the NYA putting their guidance to us reviewing, interpreting and updating our own to match - which doesn’t seem too bad to be honest to get that kind of document through peer review in that time.
Wales gets indoor bubbles of 30 now it seems - but no residential training other that in single occupancy tents. Guidance just issued to OC Wgs.
Not sure how useful that is if the 2m social distancing remains.
Yeah, good if you have a massive building. Not so much for the majority.
The residential restriction has however shafted a couple of plans to use Fairbourne.
2 groups =/= 2 bubbles, so there’s more flex with larger bubbles regardless of building size.
Fair point.
Difficult if the weather’s pants though.
In school from my limited experience since just before Easter in classes of 30ish wearing masks, sitting next to each other and similar in the dining hall, outside no restrictions some kids seem to self distance, but in the main there is no distancing and no real attempt to enforce it.
Come Saturday at the sqn we are insisting on this and that. Utter, utter nonsense and inconsistent with the outside world. See groups of people out and about now compared to this time last year, the majority ignore any sort of distancing and likewise masks.
There is no reason for the NYA to be so behind the curve, govt says this is what’s happening just do it. It’s not difficult surely.
The words Duty of Care seem to spring to mind
and that is what will be uppermost at Sleaford Tech and High Wycombe
Let it be spread by everyone else but not us
It’s chalk and cheese.
The kids are tested once a week and no positives, so I would imagine a reasoned risk assessment has been made autonomously by whoever makes decisions at Trust level and given heads the final decision. Currently one +ve either actual child or by association whole classes get told to stay home, which apparently happened on 3 occasions up to Christmas. All the kids had -ve results, but were off for a week, which created havoc. Vulnerable staff were forced to shield since October ½ term, if they weren’t already.
Then there are the numbers. A few cadets (much less than the average school class) in a big shed who are more compliant vs 1300 kids in a school with behavioural and compliance problems we won’t see on the same scale on a squadron. So it seems a middle ground is taken. I’ve seen that keeping on about the minutiae we do in cadets in a school environment, would send you round the twist. Even the most ardent of teaching staff strike a balance otherwise they’d only ever be managing the behaviour of 4/5 kids and do little or no teaching.
Then the reality, education far more politically sensitive and developmentally important than youth groups. No school : potentially life changing; no youth group : more time to chill. If we are all completely honest not having to do ‘cadets’ with exception of a virtual excursion every week over the last year made life more relaxing. Let’s not allow ourselves to get dewy eyed over comments in a paid for reports.
Wales seems to be more reticent with the full relaxation on the 21 Jun. It would appear from reading this you can have many thousands together but 2 metre social distancing is still a thing in wales.
