To be fair, it looks like you will be able to run non-residential first aid courses from the 12th of April, which is only 2 weeks after being allowed to do outdoor stuff again.
If you were keen to get staff skilled-up first aid wise, you could look at getting an instructor in to deliver a REC outdoor first aid course? I think they can be run fully outdoors, and is approved by RYA, BCU and MTUK.

I’d actually like to do a REC course if one comes up. More useful for the scenarios I might find myself in than FAAW.
Yeah, same. The courses that I’ve seen advertised previously on the various outdoor instructor pages look really good. I just haven’t managed to warrant the cost/time off when I get my AFA for free on a weekend!
I can’t use AFA for work so have to pay for something I can use anyway.

how many people are likely to be effected?
in our wing at least the FA ticket required for FA last three years. thus on the expectation that the AT qualified staff are equally distributed across all training courses, which run an equal number each year there should only be ~third of staff which are effected. ok so that is not an insignificant number when i would guess the “average” unit only has 2-3 of AT staff on unit so a good chance one will be effected but surely not ALL staff need to be “up to date” again??
The squadron I’m at his 7 staff and only 1 with any AT qualifications.
I think your over estimating how many AT staff we have, or you are very lucky locally.
Staff tend to go on courses with friends, on my Squadron the staff all go and do First Aid together so with 1 out they are all out.
Absolutely no chance that my wing would allow that. Strict rationing of first aid courses because they failed to deliver any for about 18 months and demand vastly outstrips supply.

Sorry, should have used the words better. It’s not all - but a reasonably significant number (between 16-30) instructors per Wing at the moment who are out of date / expiring in the next couple of months.
It’s not completely going to knock stuff on the head but it does affect the overall capability to get cadets back outdoors.

I wonder if the RAFAC will source courses through the HSE for a percentage of candidates to enable return to activity. That would of course mean paying for them!
Not helped by at least 1 Region refusing to allow YFA last time we were allowed to be open for no particular reason!
I don’t think that the HSE do that sort of thing anymore.
Can individuals not sort out their own first aid qualification? If you’re the type to go for regular walks in your personal time, I would have thought a first aid qualification would be a good thing to have
They can; costs a bit to do it privately though.
I’d be pushing (not that they would say no!) my committee to pay for it.
They are a pain sometimes but with 50% of them being ex Staff anyway they understand the issues we face and are happy to pay out for stuff like that if they can.
