Numismatics (Coin & Medal Collecting)

Unfortunately and unlike full-size medals, miniatures are mounted side-by-side on a purpose made brooch and that’s what makes them look unwieldy when there are a lot of them.

This was in the back of a 50th anniversary service of thanksgiving programme.
Does anyone know what a cadet gallantry medal was?

171 is my home Sqn and never seen this before! Will send to the boss.

Goddall went on to become OC at somepoint. If i remember correctly

Do, it’s clearly been lost over time. I have a very vague memory of an honours board at 130 but haven’t been there in nearly 30 years!

171, 130 & 149 were the originals of ghe ADCC so such a prestigious little bunch.

One of my first parades was in 1989 with all 3 squadrons celebrating the 50 year anniversary. Blimey, that was a few years ago now!

The Platinum Jubilee has got me re interested in collection of medals especially now that I have one of my own. I’ve collected lots of family medals since I’m one of the few interested in the family so I seem to slowly have acquired from uncles and aunts and cousins as they know I will look after them but have no experience purchasing them.

I have decided I want to branch out. Look to start a proper collection with originals of one each of Her Majesty’s 5 Coronation & Jubilee Medals. Coronation, Silver, Golden,Diamond & obviously platinum. Anyone got any recommendations best places to start looking for originals

I have a jubilee and coronation collection. I’ve used eBay (be careful) and then some collectors groups on Facebook to find reputable dealers. I’d probably avoid the big auction houses as the add ons are ridiculous.

Ive got genuine issue Silver, Golden and Diamond jubilee medals for sale. I also have the Canadian variants of the Silver and Golden jubilee medals, if you were interested in those as well.

If you were wanting to go back earlier than 1977, I’ve also got some Queen Victoria Jubilee medals i want to move on.

Could you PM me what you would be looking for in terms of prices?

My collection of jubilee and coronation medals back to Victoria’s Golden Jubilee.

I can also vouch for @gunner being legitimate, having bought some of these from him.

If you want something a bit more visually appealing - Masonic jewels can be pretty extravagant and historical to acquire.

My one Masonic jewel is pretty fancy if I do say so myself.

People complaining about missing out on the platinum jubilee medal, I missed out on the UGLE Tercentenary jewel by 4 months. Another 100 years before another one…

I’ll try and dig out my Polish National Lodge members jewel. It’s one of the few lodge member jewels authorised for wear at GL events. Will send you a photo.

It’s a beauty. Sadly I’m currently a lapsed member so can’t wear it but hopefully one day I’ll be back.
