There is a grey area between what is a trip and what is a camp. Nijmegen is certainly claimable.
I shall enquire!
But that’s because it HQAC lead. All other overseas trips have to go through the CACE process (to Region) where Region say no public funds.
My argument is what is different between a battle filed trip to Normandy or Holland compared with a trip to NMA or Runnymeade.
Problem is that those at HQAC are blinkered by people trying to run it ‘their way, or no way’
10,000 camps places. Would love to see the break down of this figure!! Is that going all the way down to squadron weekend camps!!
That would work out at very roughly 1 place per 4 cadets, maybe 1:3 if recruits / second class are taken out of the figure.
It would be a hefty uplift on the roughly 1:10 we got this year, and that includes those who went on a RIAT, a Wing camp and a Region camp. Without those it’s closer to 1:25!
Although not given numbers for IACE they have issued a calling notice for Australia, Belgium, France, Germany, Sweden and USA so will be a good selection on there overseas wise
I heard rumour they want to bring back the civvy Nijmegen element. Just differently.
I do hope so. We had a 100% completion for well over a decade and no issues with our accommodation. Just fell foul of the carpet ban, tarring everyone with the same brush all because one Wing couldn’t follow the simple instructions!!
Really???
#WishfulThinking
Time will tell…
I had a very interesting conversation with someone this summer that brought together a LOT of the rumours and conjectures in to one narrative.
It would seem that a lot of work is being put in to try to find an acceptable & workable solution.
A lot of the hope has rested on a refreshed attitude at the top…
I’m sure you’d agree that historically, the NM was an exceptionally well supported event - by cadets and staff.
Almost certainly being over optimistic on my part - but I wonder if the
“500 Overseas”
MIGHT reflect a POSSIBILITY that someone’s Christmas wish might be coming true…
Putting my Captain Obvious Cap of Cynicism on, target numbers are aims, aspirations and hopes…. I’ve lost over 4 stone since the summer… my aspiration and hope would be that I lose another 2 1/2 stone by next summer… also Wishful Thinking… but I’m trying!
Going back to other comments - I agree that either HQAC need to either come through and deliver MUCH more nationally or at least regionally - or they need to find sensible, safe ways to enable more to be delivered locally… such as gliding and shooting, via recognised organisations.
They can’t control the purse strings AND limit what can be done autonomously and expect to retain cadets and staff…
I do hope that you are right and the people doing the work have been doing it in good faith, but…
The risk appetite of the corps and the lack of for want of a better fraise operational control over civvi teams put pay to the corps sending teams outside of Heumensoord since 2022.
or they need to find sensible, safe ways to enable more to be delivered locally… such as gliding and shooting, via recognised organisations.
Bin the excessive attitude - “we are the only people who can do this safely.”
I hope that the recent MoU between RAFAC & the Air League will pave the way to more flying opportunities…

And there sits the problem. Individuals controlling Nijmegen need to go out to the Wings and ask for involvement from SMEs. There are plenty of good stories. Use the experience and listen to what/how people have done in the past, weed out the poor performance and move on.
Don’t just stick your heads in the sand; if not more CFAVs and cadets will go but under a non-RAFAC umbrella; those misses out!!!
The rumour I heard was that they would run it centrally more like a camp. Hire a sports hall, or something like that, have the teams all together.
Which could be quite fun.
Looking at the numbers from the presentation, unless my maths is skewed, does it seem that they might be based on a larger projected cadet population??
That would actually be a very good way of doing it!
That was my thought. Much closer to the military way in some respects. Also reduces duplicate costs and staffing.
I wish it well.
They can’t control the purse strings AND limit what can be done autonomously and expect to retain cadets and staff…
… can’t they…
They seem very capable of imagining other nonsense…
Looking at the slides that the Comdt delivered at the conference . . . a few things stand out on the Power BI stats slide.
So this is apparently for FY24-25, but the flying stats for 6FTS are given as since Feb 22.
The Academic section makes me laugh “Over 2 BTECS” well is it actually two? or what number is it if its over?
What’s the 7th ATC region?
