New Ambassador

Please feel free to add amendments on criteria

(I personally would have gone for between 30 & 40 but didn’t want the vorderman brigade claiming that she shouldn’t have been made one in the first place).

Would fit with current hair policy

I believe he’s ex-CCF so figures :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

How about Helen Sharman ? - First British astronaut - keen advocate for science education.

Why don’t we just replace her with Rachel Riley, like Countdown did?

Seconded - plus she does fit the uniform…

Why do we all think there will be a new ambassador? Sir Chris Hoy and Carol may be a steep learning curve on how you can’t rely on celebrity status. It would not surprise me if they scrapped the whole idea and just used airforce pers.

Could go for people in uniform who are seen by the general public as role models, anyone from the Reds, oh sorry they’ve blown it…

There are many on the elite sports pathway who are basically employed as PTIs by the RAF so they can focus on their sport but would the RAF want to ‘share’ them as RAFAC ambassadors?

to be fair i think CV was a good choice after Chris Hoy, and her time up to 2020 in my opinion proved that.

As indicated previously, with the change in CAC (and thus CV’s closest contact with the organisation) in 2020 and with no events to attend until 2 years later, like many CFAVs during the Pandemic, CV fill her time on other projects. For whatever reason TK either chose not to, or couldn’t engage with CV and so by the time we were in a position to “use” an ambassador CV had lost interest/forgotten about the RAFAC

And instead we end up with less of an ambassador and more of an envoy to the RNLI.

This sounds very familiar- does CV stand for “cadet volunteer”?

Qualified B757 then B747 pilot. Flew as a captain for Astreus. Flies a Fokker DR 1 replica. I doubt he would suffer 2 FTS madness though.

He’s a great chap but umm he’s 65…

Current Chief of Air Staff is 10 years younger than Bruce so Bruce is probably best known to the kids as “that rock singer grandad liked when he turned 13” which unfortunately makes Bruce sound like an 80s cliff richard.

15 years ago he probably would have been a great one but can’t see him doing the 10 years as an ambassador now - he’ll need to give his driving license back in 5 years.

James may then. Someone’s probably already suggested him.

Richard Hammond is the only one of the Top Gear/Grand Tour presenters who wouldn’t have to renew his driving licence every year by the end of his tenure as an ambassador.

And could be a good choice; adventurous (as per TG/GT), scientific/STEM interested (Braniac: Science Abuse) and just a little bit energetic.

Years ago I was at Cranwell for that exact event with the red arrows and she was there for a flight. She said us cadets who escorted her and did a guard of honour as she walked out onto the airfield would get blue Peter badges.

Still waiting for that badge 10 years on…
