Mtp

Our OC has said unless everyone has it no one is allowed to wear it on the sqn. Im not going to argue with him as he the boss and what he say goes but no fair. :frowning: lol
Does the rule work the other way? Does everyone have 95s?

ours is not to question why etc etc
Why the hell not?

YES! Someone owes me Ā£30! Pay up!

Iā€™ve told ours the official line, but reminded them that if they go and buy their own, they wonā€™t get it replaced when they break it
showed others that we are different from regulars. It worked as an identity.
I can normally tell by the fact that there arenā€™t any 13-15 year-old regulars.

I will be doing the same, and advising that their is no need to run out and get as CS95 is still suitable. The OC might not like it but this authorisation has been so widely distributed and covered on Social Media that it wonā€™t be possible to change it. and you will always have the clever cadet that turns round to someone at a wing event saying you canā€™t wear that, when actually they can.

You know thatā€™s not the reason, heā€™s clearly decided he doesnā€™t like the idea of some people in MTP and others in CS95 and has made his own rules.
Agreed. I have told my staff and cadets that they are allowed to wear it as long as they comply with the policy (i.e. it is a complete set, no mixing and matching) but I have encouraged them to continue with their CS95 for as long as possible.

We have plenty of CS95 stock and we will use that first - although a lot of it is designed for 200 pound, seven foot tall gorillas which obviously doesnā€™t help with a 3.5 foot midget cadet.

Equally, we are getting a reasonable quantity of MTP from sources. My plan is to transition my adult staff into MTP as and when they wish to change and if cadets want to buy it, they do so at their own risk. I made the point that if they then break MTP that they have private purchased, they wonā€™t get a replacement from our stores for the foreseeable future - more than likely they would be issued a CS95 suit again.

I remember the transition from the 1994 issue and falklands era heavy weight kit into CS95 and it took a long time for that to happen - but at least the pattern was quite similar and you couldnā€™t really tell unless you were a camo-geek. The difference this time is that MTP looks completely different from CS95 and those wearing it will stand out. However, I am resigned to the fact that there will be a mix-match of gear for a long long time.

What I am keen to avoid is some kind of ā€˜have/have-notā€™ attitude in the cadets with snobbery about Cdt X having it but Cdt Y hasnā€™t because their family canā€™t afford to buy it for him and we havenā€™t got any in stock to issue.

I am, however, absolutely certain that the really keen cadets will go out and buy this gear, probably this weekend and will want to start wearing it straight away. They donā€™t want to pretend to be regulars, they just look up to them and being able to wear the same pattern as their idols is flattery, not a threat. As long as it conforms to the policy, I am not going to stop them wearing it and it would be wrong for me to do so.

in combination with my comments made earlier in this thread the above is another reason i am not going to be rushing into PCS.
as a Staff member and role model i will be showing their is no shame in sticking with CS95

ā€¦and I think that is a completely valid reason to stick with CS95

ā€¦but ultimatelyā€¦

One advantage of PCS is that smaller sizes should be available. I have been informed that they will start to produce it in 150 height at some point in the near futureā€¦just not for my cadetsā€™ initial issue later this month!

That might balance the fact that equivalent size jackets seem to be far bigger in PCS than they were in CS95.

Never mind 150, what about 200!

the directive still needs workā€¦

it would be an idea for HQAC to share its thoughts on the length of the transition period, or indeed whether its intention is that from now on the ACO is to be both an MTP and DPM wearing orgnisation.

lets say iā€™m a Sgt(ATC) with a full set of DPM and what looks like a reasonably secure supply of replacements. my trousers get catastrophicly ripped and i need to buy a new pair - these are likely to last me, say, 5 years: should i get another pair of DPMā€™s because in 4 years weā€™ll still be in DPMā€™s if we wish, or should i start biting the bullet and buying MTP because in 18 months HQAC will send out a directive saying that within a 6 month period Sqnā€™s should be in MTP only? if its a marginal decision with a pair of trousers, what about a smock?

how about if i join as a Sgt(ATC) now: DPM is cheap as chips while MTP is still quite steep - if i buy DPM and save a fortune, will i get to the point where i want to start replacing it before i need to replace the DPM with MTP, or am i going to find myself throwing perfectly servicable DPMā€™s away because the ACO has decided its time to be a single uniform/pattern organisation?

there will be some people - probably not a few actually - who will have enough DPM in the loft to cope with 4 lifetimes in the ACO. i can personally think of one young F/O who will be able to whip out some pristine DPMā€™s in 2050ā€¦

any chance of a plan so people can, well, plan?

You know thatā€™s not the reason, heā€™s clearly decided he doesnā€™t like the idea of some people in MTP and others in CS95 and has made his own rules.
We donā€™t know what the reason is actually. he may well not like it but itā€™s a bit arrogant to think WE really know the reason.

Well maybe your Sqn is from Middle Earth then. I can think of at least 10 cadets in my Sqn and at least another 10 in my old sqn who easily could be mistaken for being older.
Not all cadets are 3 foot nuffink. Some are big lads. My cadet son is 16 and looks older than his 21 year old cousin who has just returned from Afghanistan.

Iā€™ll take your money. Mine seem to fit just fine.

Chaps, please feel free to shoot me down. But I canā€™t help but speak my mind.

We have all known for a long time that MTP was coming, we just didnā€™t know whenā€¦ If you had some foresight you would have made previsions to start sourcing it at either beg/borrow/steal or by private purchase. E.g. My NI pack a couple of months ago was falling apart after YEARS! of service, I replaced it with MTP bag knowing I will be able to use it soonish.

My black Lowa boots are worn to the max and it wonā€™t be cost effective to repair, I will investigate buying brown boots as in a year or two that is all we will be allowed to wear.

You just have to have some foresight. I suggest you start accumulating. I have a full set of MTP because of my foresight but I will keep x2 sets of DPM for camps etcā€¦ until it is irradiated completely.

Plus! As a Sgt (ATC) on what Ā£50 x 28 days = Ā£1400 per yearā€¦ what do you spend that on! all my ATC pay goes on Cdt stuff weather it is kit, uniform or McDonalds for the Cadets after a long trip etc.

Just saying. Weā€™re all adults here. Letā€™s be sensible please.

No shoot down from me Merlin. Wise words.

MTP Ancillaries have never been banned, just the uniform itself.

It already comes in 200ā€¦
